kroger is the worst job to work at, they pay you the most ****ty wage every, and the raise are nasty,,,
we should at least start off at nine dollars, us kroger employees are that ones that make kroger possible. not the customers, we have to put up with so much **** and plus our job is very stressfull, its crazy how the vp and them are working and getting paid nice but when it comes to baggers, cashiers, and any other department you cant,,, i wish kroger will step there game up when it comes to there employees... i work and have a child the hours are ****ted and i do not make enough to even support my self but i still go to work and work my ass off, just to make kroger happy....

Yes kroger should step up and try to make things better . But then with a sorry personal attitude ( like yours) now one could make you happy. I got an idea!! why not try Wal_Mart? They will take anyone. Last I know ( over 20 years) I have never seen Kroger put a gun to anyone`s head and say your Hired. Seen them say your fires and hold on to a lot of people that should have been gone long before their time. So I guess all you will do is bitch and moan about poor me rather it is Kroger or where ever you work. At least you could always try to join and be part of the union and work for changes from within. But then that does not go with the poor old pitiful me attitude.

Everyone has a right to complain yet I see here someone who I bet is up front in one of the unskilled postions is wanting to be paid more.
Welcome to the whole world.
Everyone wants to be paid more I started off @ 7.60 worked as hard as I could and make what you want. I complain it makes me feel better but in order for me in get paid like a vp I would have to have the experience they do
Some have been in the besiness 20+ years can you say that????
And they at my store have some college education.
I have that do you??

Sure Kropger is the great Satan but then I remember working for Winn Dixie in the mid 80`, in Texas< when Safeway left the area . That left Kroger as the only Union Store and Winn Dixie cut Pay and benefits in a matter of a few weeks. Nothing we could do about it. Seen Albertson`s fire over half their   meat department people when they went to precut meat. They was all top paid people and then turn around 8 nor 9 moths later and hire a number of new people in to replace them at cheaper rates. They then repeated that same thing a year or so later. Nothing they could do. I was at a union meeting when a few Alberton workers called and wanted to know if the union could help them. The reply was no because when you had the chance to go union, you all refused and did not want them. Seen Tom Thumb sold to Randalls  and then again to Safeway. Both times they took big hits on pay and benefits with no say in it for the employees. Have had friends work at Wal-Mart only to see there health care and benefits change frequently with no say in it. So maybe Kroger is not the best place to work but there are always worse. Do I ever have a complaint or bitch about Kroger? You do not work 20 years without ever having any. Now lets consider that the bottom pay scales are low. Well that is because they are entry lever or no experience pay rates. Seldom does anyone ever start at a god job with the higher rates with no experience. That is why they are called entry level rates. You got to earn the pay rates. People want to bash Kroger and the unions that are here. but get rid of the unions and you will have kroger as the devil to work for just like Wal_mart. Was able to set in on a few contract talks and If Kroger had its way, there would not be any difference between them and Wal_mart. Now for those that truly hates their job and pay rate then just Quit or work to earn your rates and pay. There is nothing that says Kroger or any other employer has to start a whiner at any rate they ( the employee) feels they deserve because they have no experience or life has kicked them in the ass. Again, do not like it then do something about it other that bitch and moan. Try working and getting promoted or search for your dream job when not in hell at Kroger.

Now one thing I would do , if I had the power, would be to change federal and any state laws on Minimum wage. I would have it at $8.00 an hour but would exempt all school students and those under 18. I would have it back to $5.50 for those under 18 and $6.50 for college students. Do not see the common sense in paying a struggling family person the same rate ( starting out with no experience) as a 16 year old kid.

And from your lanaguage and spelling just drop out of college dear you have to be able to think to go.
And if fat and bitch are the only way you can insult someone I'd do it as soon as possible

bitch, bitch, bitch .Another kid that has no balls that got to hide behind the mask of anonymous. You claim your going to college and working your ass off. Guess you have to since you have no balls to post a name or profile. That is why there are entry level rates. Seems you are not really interested in staying and that is your right. college student? You have intentions of a good career and that is fine so why should Kroger ( or any employer) want to invest muck ( benefits and pay) in any employee ( such as a student) that they know is not going to be around that long and only part time. You ( the coward that you are ) want to bitch about how expensive college is and working your ass off but can not even create a profile and hide behind anonymous?
It is chicken **** whiners like you that always seems to want a free hand out and everything given out without earning it first.

If this is true then the original poster has just stated the case for two things.
#1  Why pay ( kroger or any employer) top wages for an idiot whiney  employee.
#2 The education community has dumb downed standards for college and society over the years.

The fact of bieng anonymous is a moot point.  Everyone on this site is anonymous regardless if you post what division, store, or dept we are in.  Most people do not care about that they just want to get unbiased information.  Furthermore, posting with the name 'anonymous' is really no different then posting with a fake character name either, but i digress.  I don't see why we should differentiate pay based on age or school endeavours.  As you have stated, entry level is entry level.  I worked full time in order to pay for my college education and earned every bit of my paycheck each week.  I admire people who do this it shows commitment.  Sometimes that commitment is rewarded with promotions.  I stayed with Kroger upon graduation and have now been employed twenty years with the company.  There are always pro's and con's but to pass judgement on an opinion site is very childish.  People are here to vent, blow off steam, and hear helpful opinions and feedback.  People are not here to be made fun of, ridiculed, or judged, by doing so, the 16 year old mentality has been estblished and the pay rate should be dropped based on that....LOL.  Grumpy a lot of your posts are very informative and helpful.  I have enjoyed reading some of them, but sometimes you can be a little too grumpy....no offense.

To vent is one thing but to vent as anonymous is just as childish and shows lack of balls, guts coward ness, lack of confidence or just intimidation. Does not take long to create a profile and sign in. I have posted many times, just what store and position I am in. I got to my position over years of hard work and earning what I got. I do not get it as to why half the anonymous whiney ass clowns come here ( in Fear) to complain that they are not getting what they feel they should have. The only solution is to change the attitude, work to earn it or go elsewhere to work.
Now as to the 16 year old mentality? Try not hiding behind shadows ( anonymous) and take responsibility for YOUR OWN ACTIONS. The pay is established and everything else before you are even hired. If you do not like something then use your recourses such as HR or the union. Your fear alone states that you just want to come on and whine and bitch and complain that your job is the great evil without even stating what you did about it or what you need help with? Your hiding behind Anonymous and bitching shows the childish behavior of a little kid that can not seem to stay out of trouble and has to hide behind the skirt of their mother for protection.

NOW as far as should their be a lower minimum wage for high school kids and students? I have stated that it is my opinion and that in the case of that< I would do it. Do not see the need to pay a higher entry level wage to a minor kid that still is in school and supported by their parents as opposed to a struggling parent that it trying to get by and starting a job. Kids are ( in general) not as mature and responsible enough to care about a jod or responsibilities that comes with it. generally speaking they are there to get money and social aspects first and will start whining shortly because they want more money for lack of experience just to feed their social needs. Now take someone out of school and having to support their self or help take care of the family then they are looking more for the money to do that first before the social needs come in. They are hear , in an entry level spot to learn and more willing to stick it out and want to be a part of a company or team, rather it be Kroger or any other company.

That is my grumpy old opinion

"""when its anonymous you dont know who is saying what,,,,is it the same person from before or not,,,, """10.gif

That is my point. You Have no idea if it is the same person or not. If It is real or not.

"""this forum is a place to relase anger that employees have againts kroger,,,, """4.gif

SO why still have toi hide behind generic Anonymous? Anonymous Guy from Ohio is fine. at least you distinguish an area or region and some sort of IDS to separate you from the generic anonymous.

"""why are you so strongly against people and being anonymous,,, """11.gif

Kroger is in what about 31 states or so? under how many different contracts? Look at how many times someone asks what is my pay or where is this person or can I do this and they post as anonymous and you have no clue to answers this without having to start with where are you at.Have I ever had a problem with Kroger over 20 years? yes  and records to the union and S.W.K.M.A. HR will show it. I do believe I have even posted about my new store manager here without hiding under anonymous. Calling someone out , by name, and posting as anonymous does nothing more than remind me of the cowardly little kids that wants to start trouble and run and hide and say it was not me and blame others.

"""if you put your name out some one can find you and kill you,,, this world is crazy,,,, stop having feelings for this kroger forum...."""11.gif

If you or others that are that paranoid about putting a name ,or general location out there, because of someone crazy finding and killing you , then you and others have more serious problems that no public forum can ever help. you may need to see a shrink on that issue. And if one is fearful of Kroger finding a post and terminating you because of something you said then there are , once again, bigger issues with you that any forum ,anywhere, can ever help you with.

So what you and everyone else is saying that you post under anonymous because you fear for your jobs because Kroger will fire you? and I believe One does not want to place a name out there for fear a crazy will get it and kill you. This is some of the most pathetic excusers I have heard. Have to wonder how any of you have managed to keep a job that you have to live in fear for. Had a situation about 9 years ago where I posted a comment about If Kroger was going on strike. Sent it to every local paper in the North Texas area. About 5 months later One paper picked it up and printed it and it was two days into contract talks and 4 months after a contract expired. I was On the committee and it caught Kroger and everyone off guard and a little embarrassed. If they was ever going to fire me then it would have been then. My name was on it too. I have seen many people tell Kroger what they think of their jobs and never get fired and you know what? They could care less. They just want the Job done and done right in a timely manor. So what I take it is that most of the ones here are posting under anonymous because they fear that Kroger is monitoring this and any other boards and that they will fire you because you say your job sucks. That must then explain the incompliant Dumb assess that they continue to employ. They do not come here to complain and show up to work in fear. Wake -up people this is not WAL-MART.

Maybe agreeing to disagree will be the best thing?
And going on to different topics would be the best?
Like $6.99 for Rainier cherries Man What are we thinking!
I love them but Kroger is out of it's mind if it thinks I'm paying over 6 bucks for them

Not sure wich post you are refering to but I will say this. I was on a committee several times and the last time we ( Loval 540 in Dallas) came close to wanting the strike as far as having signs and posters made up. Houston is mopre likely to strike and has a few times I do believe over the 20 years I have been with Kroger. I have been with Kroger 20 years and all in the north Dallas area of the SWKMA. I work in the Meat department and presently , the market manager of store 488 in Mckinnety, Texas. Not worries if anyone reads this post and those that knows me , in Kroger Land, will know exatly who I am. Also as far as Grumpy goes. I did have officail permition to place that on my name badge ( Grumpy Old Man) for about 6 years. Came right from Bill Breetz on a store visit once.

That makes some sense.  They tend to be less dependable, can't sell alcohol or tobacco.  They stand around talking to one another instead of engaging customers as they walk by.  The struggling family person is there to work and give their all because they know what it means in their lives like a roof over their head.

Personally, I find it insulting to lump everyone together like that. Most likely, yes, the teenagers will stand around goofing off, but every once in awhile there will be a hard-working one, one that needs to bring the money home to his/her family or a college student whos only purpose in having a job is to PAY FOR COLLEGE. Maybe his parents were well off enough that he couldn't get student loans/grants, but they decided to make him pay for school himself. I am pro an interview process in which you can negotiate your starting pay. Let the hiring rep have a cap on the top pay they're allowed to allott and start with minimum wage. If the person can prove they're going to be a great employee, give em a shot at a higher pay. If they disappoint, well, that's what the probation period is for. But it's really not fair to say some people should be paid less for their work because of their age. When you get old, do you expect your pay to drop because you can't move around as swiftly as you can now? Hopefully not. And hopefully you'll be retired by the time you lose your nimbliness. But with things going as they are, I mean, we have several 80+ year olds working at my store. It's crazy.

Edit: I've done such negotiating at previous jobs. At Petsmart I was asked how much I would like to earn and I explained I was trying to afford to go back to school so they started me off at higher than they normally would. I didn't do poorly there, but I was only a cashier and you can't really mess that up there.

If it's fair to lower the pay for younger people (not all of them are going to be lazy just because they are young) then once someone hits say... 60, should they lower their pay too because a 60 year old might not stock shelves as fast as a 20 year old?

Well, they don't pay you for all the hours you work, but they act like you're not doing your job when you  refuse to work the completely unpaid overtime...and  I mean UNpaid, not underpaid, not somewhat paid, UNPAID.  And it's not like you can just snap your fingers and get a better job anymore.  sure, someday this person probably will.  Until then, these things need to be said.  people shouldn't hire promising to pay you, and then just decide they don't need to pay for ALL your work.  That's robbery.  And you know they're kicking people out for stealing a pack of gum.

LOL, @ Kroger is the best places to work.   You're a patsy.  Unlike what the media wants you to believe, americans still want crappy jobs, because we're desperate.  the world is not just full of great jobs, some people still have to do the crappy ones.  I guess all the people posting here think the people ringing their crap up and making sure a store is clean and stocked and running dont deserve to get paid for every hour they work, dont deserve to have enough time to eat during ten hour shifts, and so on.  We still deserve a fair wage for working.  And by fair I mean even minimum wage, as long as you get paid every hour.  The people running Kroger are swimming in money, but can't afford to pay their employees?  Also, the person who posted this conversation still has better spelling and grammar than our DM.
