It,s hard to do.
from what i understand, you have to have the request ,in writing, and it has to be done on the aniversity of you joining.
i have never known anyone to be able to get out, because you mail the request, and they claim they diddn't get it in time.

I have done it once just because they pissed me off but I got back in it later on. But here is what I had to do. Now you can send them a certified letter and quit any time you want to but that does not stop the dues payments that are deducted from your paycheck. When you join the union it is from year to year and automatically renewed unless you send them a letter ( followed by on to your HR department and Pay role two weeks before your anniversary of joining the union and not of joining Kroger unless they are one in the same. When you join you are signing a contract that lets them deduct dues from you  from year to year and that is why one is told to get out on your anniversary of joining. The certified letters are to the Union, HR and pay role so that you do have documentation of your request to leave without anyone saying they never got it. Someone has to sign for them. The reason to HR is for your records and knowledge of them having your request. The reason for Pay Role is for them to have documentation of your request and to stop the dues payments. If you rely on the union to notify pat role to stop the dues payments then you may be waiting till hell freezes over. Two weeks notice is what is required for prompt and timely leaving considering the weekly time periods. I would have the letters sent certified and next day delivery when possible. The ones to HR and Pay role can also be sent on your store mail also. That is if you can trust it to not get lost. But then again, never known Kroger to not want to help someone get out of the union.

Not here to stop you but think about what your doing. You can quit but your still going to pay for your benefits you wont have to pay dues and you have no rights if your repramanded for anything up to and including losing your job. So is saving what 6 dollars a week worth all the BS? <--- depending on your local.  If your doing this to make a statement your wasting your time , people dont caqre what you do but however they will get a good laugh at stupidaty

Who's paying $6/week for union dues?  This better not be true.  i pay $67/month on my union dues.  I'm an aircraft machanic. Just about a week ago i almost lost my job due to RIF.  According to our CBA the rule is first one in, last one out.  i was going to be  booted out coz i was the most junior.  the other guy that came in 1 month before me, got to stay...AND THE DUDE IS A NON UNION EMPLOYEE, AND HE GOT TO STAY! DID THE UNION DO ANYTHING ABOUT THAT?  NOOOOOO.  So WTF am i really paying $67 for?  These made enough money from me for the past 3 years.  I need to get out and I need to get out NOW.  Please help.

oh and BTW, i'm really not worried of losing my job coz i aint got nothing to be afraid of.  i know i'm  a good worker, i always give a 110% every single day, while others have time to browse the internet from their cellphone in the corner somewhere, i'm busy looking at maintenance instruction manuals to a certain task for the very first time.  the only time i will reprimanded is...i cant really think of any reason.  please help me get out of union.

I'll tell you how my husband just got out of the union.

We sent 7 SEVEN certified letters to the union, faxed it and sent requests via email & web. NO RESPONSE. Surprsied? Yeah, me neither. Anyway after dh's anniversary date came & went he called the 800 number and bitched to them about how his union rep wouldn't call him back. He got a call within 12 hours, haha. Anyway He basicallly had to rip the union rep a 'new one' to get him to do anything. Good luck, I know it sucks.

And who is paying $6/wk?! DH was paying double that! To the people that think that isn't 'worth it' to get out? That almost $50/mo for a year is almost a mortgage payment! More than a car payment! They (the union & the government) will nickle & dime you to death if you let them.

$11.96 + 0.25 active ballot. I don't know why it's so much in Texas. Maybe because he's been there a long time. 16 years.

The union I am in you must resign on the anniversary date you signed up. If you signed May 12 2011 you are eligible to cancell , quit, get out of the union on May 12 2012. Call the local to find out the rules. I would give them a written request, at least 5 days before your anniversary date. I would get a copy back that shows the date they received the request.

I work at kroger part and I am a union stewart at my full time job. I am getting out because have notice that KROGER Union don't help black people get their jobs back no matter how small the act is.  But all the white people did not matter how big the act is including breaking the law.  I also notice you can be a good work and if management don't like you they will lie, cheat and steal to set you up! So black people be careful! My black coworkers and I have realized that and we are covering our tracks.I

A little late to the party but I was paying $75 a month in dues after a couple hundred in initiation fees ($250 for the biggest and a couple other lil ones) here in WA.

My biggest paycheck ever was about $290, that was after nearly 40hrs during 4th of July...

You have to send a registered letter asking for your window date that you can quit the union then they send you this letter and then you send a registered letter or a fax back because you have to have proof that you sent it saying you want out and it has to be between that window of the dates of the window its not the date you were anniversary its the date you signed up for the union

It's somewhere between profoundly difficult and impossible to quit the union.  The only surefire way is to find a different job.  Which isn't a bad option, to be honest.

Around here, it's an hour a week.  Or, about $720 a year for me.  I don't even spend that much on booze.

I'm not really making any money here, and it's just retail hell anyways, so I honestly wouldn't pay $720 to keep this job.  Especially every year.

Good luck.
