To my great dismay, the screens they installed on the ceilings in the front aren't going to show cartoons, but rather the new QueVison thing. Can anyone give me a general low down on how these work/help? Lately, managment has really been pushing for u-scan attendents to pull over customers in long lines even if they have a large buggy full to try to keep lanes down. I was told recently that the QueVision system is going to be up and running in our store soon.

We've had ours for over a year. At first, management was all "gung-ho" about it. Now, it's just a pain in the ass. Management even has a special "phone" to vibrate if they're away from the front end to let them know that they're needed on the front. They don't even respond to it now. Management dearly loves technology...they just don't understand it. Don't fret about it. This too shall pass.

Good to hear.  I became a night stocker to avoid cashiering, and all this QueVision talk has management pretending they can summon a bunch of misanthropic night-lurkers up to run a register.

I'll be still and know.

It also means, "a distinct unwillingness to run a cash register as per an inclination to avoid social interaction with people we're technically paid to be nice to", but that one's not in the dictionary yet. Yet. I kidnapped Webster's daughter and I'm sure I can ransom it into the dictionary sooner or later. Or die in an epic gunfight with police when they come to collect an imaginary daughter that a bunch of deranged service workers pretended to kidnap.

Bootlicking is what makes this system a complete failure. If you don't need it then you don't open.

I would be a horrible kroger manager - I'd do **** as intended and not give a ****.

even if the numbers are matched on the screen, the real data comes from the heat sensors on the ceiling where the lines are. they can tell if someone signs on and doesn't ring. one time an office person at my store did, and quevision CALLED the store "so.. we see your number is signed into register 7, which is closest to the service desk, and no customers are being helped.." etc. kinda creepy they can keep an eye on everything like that

Told my store manager that since we got a new register installed that there is a possibility that we could get all 6's across the screen.  And if that happened we would offend several of our older and religious customers.  His response "Oh Well!"

He didn't care at all what customers think.
