Considering Transfer
Permalink

Ok, so I am currently working in the Nutrition Dept full-time, second shift for a little over a month. I spoke with my manager yesterday and she talked with me about my performance and how I need to 'pick up the pace'. But I'm working the fastest I can, and at the same time its difficult to stay motivated enough to get everything done for the day. My manager recently tried writing out a to do list to help me prioritize what needs to be done but some days its just impossible. I can only do so much working by myself, and usually someone in Produce has to come over and help me, which is not good. As a result, I am considering putting in a request to transfer to a different department. I am looking for something more team-oriented, not lonely, and requires more helping customers, instead of lifting boxes all day. Any suggestions on what dept would be best for me would be nice.

Produce, meat/seafood, bakery, or deli. But ALL departments are going to be fast-paced and come with their own challenges.

By the way, no matter how fast & smart you work, there is no such thing as fast enough in retail.

I would suggest working with your Head Nutrition a couple days on first shift.  Maybe they can show you how it's done, or maybe you will see they aren't that great either.  But 80 hours just for nutrition sounds like a lot.  Does your total produce do over 100,000 a week?

I agree next time the person that told you to pick up the pace comes in nicely ask them if you can meet them for a shift one day so you can learn how they do it. Odds are you won't be meeting and you'll most likely never hear anything about picking up the pace again

No ****.

From 9-10 last night we had a limited number of courtesy clerks on, basically two of them went out to spot-check and remove as much as possible cart-wise from the lots, leaving myself as a courtesy clerk and the black-vested person as baggers. Granted, we were a little slow, but when they call it "bouncing," well, I found out why it's called that. I was assisting with three lanes at once at one point, bagging then thanking the customer, jumping to the next lane (fortunately a small purchase) then running over to another lane. Also I try to do go-backs as fast as I can but it's rough when you have five or six different items from five or six different aisles. I also move my ass as quickly as I can in the parking lot when it's my turn to work the parking lot and bring in carts but just as soon as I bring carts in they go back into the store. Sometimes I think I am just having small strokes or lapses of memory because it can be like "where the hell did those carts go that I just brought in ten minutes ago?" In the store, you dumbass. *sighs*

Definitely never fast enough, especially on Sundays and Wednesdays. I haven't had to work any pre-stormy weather days yet but I hear they are rough, also I have heard whispers of holidays being a bit hectic.
