So, with the $7.90 /hr pay I get, but the amount of work I am required, and the situations I am required to deal with, I am kinda getting irritated.
We are required to play most roles in the store: Manager, Stocker, Cashier, Maintenance, CClerk, so on. There is no point in calling a supervisor/FE manager, they literally tell you "I am not walking out their, deal with it yourself". My day literally plays out like this: Count the till, count cigarettes & lotto, clean the kiosk, walk out. Wash customers windows, clean EVERY. SQUARE. INCH of the center, do backstock. Once inventory comes in, put all the items away, clean the coolers (yes, again), empty trash, clean trash buckets, clean windshield cleaner buckets, refill buckets, sweep, so on. By the way, if you don't do all this, you're "stealing time" & will be written up for not doing your job.
Oh, forgot a important piece. While you are doing all this, a customer is at the window every 10~30 seconds. And boy, are they mad you had to walk back into the kiosk, so enjoy a complaint. That break you're promised? You'll get one about between 10-40 minutes before you leave. Sure, call in a 10 times, won't make it any faster.
"Sorry sir, it is prepay here only, I can not open the pump" - Uh oh, little Ms. Manager is about to call you.
"Sorry ma'am, we are changing shifts, it will be just a minute" - Yup, enjoy your butt served on a silver platter.
"I am sorry ma'am, there is a customer at the window, I will be right back to finish washing your window" - Threatened to be written up for being rude.
Oh, the best part. I requested I can not work 2 days out of the week, for only 3 hours a day, for school. I can't get the time off because I have the lowest seniority. What happened, Kroger? I remember in Courtesy Clerk training that you all embraced this? Oh, and I am loving this "39.75" hours a week. Thanks a lot for the Full Time - Oh, that's not on my paper work. Right.
You wash customers' windows? Where you located, I need gas and windows cleaned!
Ask your shop steward how you are supposed to get all this done and what you should do if you are given a write-up. Your description is how Kroger rolls.
Only other options is to find another job or transfer to another department. The grass isn't always greener on the other side tho.
You're a student getting $7.90 an hour and 39.75 hours a week working a gas station??? Quit complaining! Most of the cashiers I know inside get a $100 paycheck every week, while you're making $314 a week before taxes. At least you don't have to get carts in 85 degree heat for 2 hours at a time making $7.25 an hour.
