ucfw 1996 final offer

the final offer proposed contract is available in stores and voting is next Tuesday & Wednesday.  There's still no pay increase except for the top rate, still no spousal coverage, still an increase in employee health care premiums.  Looks like the same thing that was already voted down which is pretty much expected.

no idea why people will vote differently this time.  i personally don't want to strike because what i want was never on the table and i've got no spouse plus i'm gay so that probably wouldn't mean anything to me in the south anyway if i had a partner.

Kroger doesn't want a strike. It would hurt them in the end.

There has to be something different about this offer or Kroger is bargaining in bad faith. Has this gone to mediation yet?

guy came to store today and spoke to me about it. I read through the entire proposal and nothings changed. If It doesn't go through then we will be on strike is what I was told.

I see you're playing the sex/homo card. Look at me, I have no spouse, only a "partner". Oh, did I mention I'm gay? Yeah, that too!

I've got not problem with people's sexual orientation, but don't just flaunt it around. Y'know that campaign Google had that says "It gets better."? Well, it also gets annoying. You don't see me parading my girlfriend around and using that to further my cause to get a better contract.

Next I suppose that you'll want the company to cover your enema costs among other things.

Dear Kroger,

$7.40 an hour to work frozen on my own is basically serfdom. You try staying in the freezer for longer than 10 minutes. Tell me if you haven't lost half your damned mind.

I'm the anonymous you replied to.  You're clearly a bigot because you didn't read what I wrote, you read what you wanted.

You can marry your girlfriend in the South.  There's no gay marriage in the South right now so having spousal coverage or not probably wouldn't mean anything.  I don't know how Kroger handles things, maybe they extended benefits to same sex couples in the past but it wouldn't matter now since all adults would be on their own except those who count as "dependants"

If it wasn't that I felt it necessary to pay protection money to the union, I'd be happy to keep my dues because it's really a waste of my money.

I can't really afford to strike and plus nothing that's wrong is going to be addressed by the union or in a strike anyway.  It's stupid, we know Kroger can do better.  Other locals have much better contracts that we do.

What hes trying to say is that his partner can't be covered under his insurance because he is gay.
