Not everyone hates their job. If I truly hated it, I would have quit long ago.,,,

I love my job.  You just work with too many negative people.  And they are effecting your attitude.

I wouldn't mind working at Kroger for the rest of my life

it may be your store less than the company itself.  i loved my store two years ago.  now i sick of it.  the people there are miserable.

the backstabbing, scheming and incompetence allowed to flourish while others suffer is nearly untenable at this point.

i don't know if i'm better off finding a new employer or hoping to latch on to a new store.  the problem with finding a new store is, even if you find one, your store manager has to release you to go.  i'm pretty sure mine will never let me go unless i can become a dept head.

I like my job and glad I have it.. I get where you're coming from though after awhile the complaining and negative bs gets old and most of the time it's from the people running departments that should retire or a old time cashier that complains all day to everyone.. all the old timers complain about newer people not doing things right yet they make 0 effort to train them and can barley do the job themselves.

lol.  I am not an old timer but...

When I try to show someone the proper way to do things, most of them think I am nit picking and being a nag.  I have to let the job be done half assed or the kids will run off and quit.

I have asked newer kids if they know how to condition.  They show me by pulling items 2 deep and leveling cans.  I walk away and they start pulling items one deep and stop leveling cans!!

A kid was helping us run stock during the day.  I found about 20 things he ran and pushed the product 2" away from the lip of the shelf.  I didn't fix any of it, I didn't have time.  I will never run into him so I can't show him the proper way to face it.  He did about 3 hours of running stock during a 6 hour shift but made about an hour of mess in the backroom that I had to clean up!  I hope he does well in school because he has no talent as a grocery clerk.

I actually like working at Kroger as a courtesy clerk.

It's those goddamned shopping carts in the parking lot corrals that I hate.

As courtesy clerks, we generally get assigned a one-hour period to remove the carts from the 'lot (parking lot) and back into the store.

Since our store is slightly larger than others, we have two people assigned, one on one side, one on another, but as courtesy clerks we usually don't give a crap if we are supposed to be on one side or the other---I, for instance, will just hunt down whomever is assigned with me and ask what side he or she wants.

But to get paid the same wages for bringing in those carts as I do for bagging and gobacks and everything else I do. Hell no.

That is a job in itself and should pay at least $9.00 an hour. I was thinking the other night that since we only get an average of one hour per day -- sometimes some of us do it twice per our shift --- that we should get the extra $1.75 just for that hour. Because to deal with a corral that has carts that look like a modern day art sculpture due to being so haphazardly thrown together, or to have to wait five to ten minutes just to get through the parking lot because everyone is pulling in and out or back and forth or up and down, or to try to maneuver 6-10 carts at a time (because there aren't enough inside due to being so busy) or to have those damn kids carts or toy car carts taking up corral space....all that crap, it isn't worth the $7.25 we get paid as courtesy clerks here. Especially in the rain or the hot weather. Yea I accept that I have to go out in the rain and hot weather when I sign off for that lot hour and I accepted it when I took the job but bob DAMN is it not worth minimum wage.

Other than that things aren't too bad.

Your job is what you make of it. Take it as fun and games or take it as a beating... one perception is better than the other.

I know its hard I've done it.  But as a cashier while the one courtesy clerk on my shift is outside I get to scan and bag and lift everything myself while being expected to make ring tender; we get 10 cents more an hour. I also have to clean the registers, stock the bags and supplies, empty the go back baskets under the register, straighten the candy, pull the drinks forward etc.  At my Kroger the courtesy clerk spends ALL NIGHT LONG getting carts so I basically have to work without one.

I hated working there too but I hate customer service in general. I quit my job at Kroger in January and it was one of the best decisions I ever made. One thing I noticed is that most of the older people that had worked there for 15+ years hated it. I would suggest going to college for something useful or using your experience at Kroger to get a better job unless you're willing to kiss a lot of ass to move up the ladder. I already got a job that starts out paying $3/hr more than Kroger did after three years.
