Is there such a position as lead cashier at your stores? I've been with Kroger almost 3 years and we now have a young girl who they have decided to be a lead cashier. I'm not seeing that position in my union handbook - I'm in the Southwest Division.
There is a front end lead at my store, probably like most others. Think of FE like grocery and dairy. FE has the actual front end workers (cashiers and baggers), customer service workers, and file maintenance all lumped in the department. The highest ranked person is the customer service manager. The front end lead is up pretty high, and these are the people who have to push ELMS up and keep dips low. CSM's are more focused on scheduling and working the service desk, while the front end lead focuses on cashiers and baggers.

Yes, front end lead is a real thing. It just isn't listed anywhere because it's a position that doesn't actually get you anything different. Same pay, same benefits, probably the same hours. It's just a working title.
If said cashier is full-time (and there usually aren't but a couple of them), then technically that cashier has the lead over the part-timers. It's in the handbook - full-timers are a higher job grade, higher pay scale, and "lead" the part-timers. They can't write anyone up or have any formal management responsibility, they just "lead", however you want to interpret it. That's it.
lead cashier is nothing more than a "glorified" title there are no perks to it other than head achs. take for example I'm considered a lead cashier an in this what it is.. is that I'm the most upper senoire cashier from 10 at night to 6 in the morning... all the others that are there from 10 at night till midnight (if lucky till 2 in the morning) have less senority.
so during these hours I over see all front end operations excluding customer service desk operations.... its my job to make sure that my fellow cashiers bagger are working ( not standing around talking texting wasting kroger time), the front end is fully clean, prepped for next day, answer Kroger phone call and to asset an engage with customers...
in the event that something should go wrong I'm to report it to the front end opener.... for example I had a cashier that saw that it was swarming busy she didn't have permission from the office or myself to leave at 10pm where she was schedualed 10:30 so she sliped out. while yes as a team lead I cant technicly write her up I can write the incedint up an pass it on to front end opener or put it in the store managers mail box. I've had to do this twice with the same person an she is nto on a job-step 2
Thanks everyone. She is teachers pet..does whatever she wants and as little as possible. She is part time same as me. Ive been with Kroger 2 years she has been there a few months. I get to bag her groceries for her but it's beneath her to help me or anyone else out. Can't complain to management because she is the chosen one. She is a good example of how to do everything wrong and I see alot of other cashiers following her lead.
