Next time your state tries to implement a right-to-work initiative, back it like as if it's the difference between keeping your money or being forced to forfeit part of it based on your job.
I live in a right-to-work state that has no income tax. And despite the fact that it often gets some bad PR, I appreciate the fact that there are only three basic things taken out of my paycheck: Federal taxes, Social Security, and Medicare.
I chose not to have the current union represent me and pay money into the organization because I know that in the long run, they will not defend your interests.
No choice. Cough up 5% of my paycheck every month or find a ****tier job. I like working at Kroger enough to not want to leave for a non-union job, anyway. Unions aren't bad, just a lot of them are.
People don't realize the union is why they get paid nothing oh and let's not forget the people who are in old contracts that can't even do half the work in their department they're clueless union brainwashed people one day they're going to realize the pension will go up in smoke more money going out then in.

There's courtesy clerks in my store who wants me as a cashier to do half of their work. I'm not gonna bow down to them and sort out the customer's groceries. I scan what I can get.
Then they want me to lift up the heavy things for them. Isn't that what THEY'RE supposed to do? If they can't do their job, they probably should be let go of. But not, silly old union here would like to keep them around in exchange for getting more union dues from them.
I work nutrition and I can lift up the 50-pound boxes we get. Why can't that manly courtesy clerk lift up a 24-pack of water bottles?
Sounds like a store issue but there is a lot of old time cashiers who get paid way to much for what they do now. Btw They have this thing it's called probation you heard of it right? Either the managers at your store are no good or your front end has a decent amount of old timers who just do nothing but complain all day while the baggers do what they want.
The only thing Union dues do for you now is provide for the Legal Fund. If you ever need a lawyer you can get the Union lawyer at a significant savings from a private lawyer that you find for yourself.
One of our stewards found out yesterday that the Union did away with the Strike Fund a contract or so ago. So employees would get ZIP for walking a picket line instead of the pittance that they used to be entitled to.
So, except for the aforementioned Legal Fund, all of our Union dues go straight to the Union payroll and don't do a damn thing for us.

It can't be helped that the courtesy clerks I mentioned have been with the company for decades, and are probably going to grow old and die on my register.
From what I have found out, all you have to do to leave the Union is send them a certified letter saying you want out. You have to send it certified so they cannot say they didn't get it. They have to sign for it and that will not only show that they got it but when.

that's because there has been labor laws for almost 40 years now that protect you more than our contact.. the union always worried about forcing these companies to pay full medical for their family and pensions wages were the last thing they cared about. Union wanted heath care act they spent millions of money on Obama. The health care act finally give the companies a way to dump people the union has been screwed for years. All these new contracts the past 15 years no wage increases there is hardly anyone left it old contracts that pay into anything. don't know who's been around awhile but the pension funds are going up in smoke. Local union presidents making over 300k union reps making 85 to 100k... top 10 ccompanies that pay the least kroger is number 4 Wal-Mart abd target are number one but really kroger is number one people getting same pay as Wal-Mart but paying union dues and you reps tell u fight Wal-Mart make them pay a living wage lol.

I've been doing it wrong then. I normally hand them to my bagger. Didn't know that we were supposed to tag 'em before bagging 'em.
