Dontchu love talking to managers?

Let's put it this way. I had a run in with my manager today and his only recourse when i asked him for proof of his accusations toward me was "Insubordination!" I doubt I'll be among you for very much longer. My union rep was of the opinion that I should keep my head down and be an ignorant grunt.

Lotta help they are.

[EDIT:] Thank god for booze.

Be careful....once management targets you, they will continue doing so by trying to write you up for stupid things that make no sense until they force you out or you've had enough and quit. As far as the union....they don't care about the employees, just collecting those dues. It is in my opinion that they work very closely with k management and have their backs. They are scum.

I've learned the hard way do it how they want.  If they drag you into a meeting, ask for your rep and don't say anything without them.  Don't sign anything either.  When they're barking loud, generally they don't have squat.  When I get accused of something (that I didn't do) I just say no I didn't and don't say anything else.  Dot you i's and cross the t's, you'll get thru.

If they had something to fire you for, they would have already done it.

It's all about playing games politics really... as stupid as it is but also with every other job. Stay on everybody's good side, come in and do your work from the time you clock in to the time you clock out, don't gossip about others or bring others down and you'll be good.

Not saying you're doing any of those things but that's how it works.

It was in regard to quevision and me knowing more than them of how it actually works.

You are clearly far and away much too sharp for that place: This may actually prove to be a very good thing for you. Personally, I'd like to see you get into something solid and good paying that befits your intelligence.

This is why whenever a manager asks you a potentially incriminating question, you should probably only answer with the phrase "I don't know." Your rep was probably right in this case; it's best to pretend to be ignorant.

It really is all about politics, management does not like those that are sharper then they are. They like to play stupid games with their employees. Shoot....I've seen employees who have been wrongly accused of crap, get suspended, go through arbitration process, only to win and come back and then be harassed and forced out by this company. Sad but true......it's a power game and who wants to put up with that crap. Keeping a low profile is fine and all but sometimes it's not worth it! The worst part about it is that the union reps know what is going on in the stores and they do nothing.

Yep, you either play the game or get fired. Whenever you start acting like a human instead of a robot, they call it "insubordination."

Yeah, I had a hard lecture about the go-backs that did not "look like they've been touched" (even though I'd done cart loads of them) because silly me, I was busy at the front, cleaning up spills, doing all restrooms and sweeps, and lot duty too (no one writes up a lot duty schedule anymore, it's just people in charge getting the whim to send so-and-so out.)

I got spoiled by having awesome management for a long time, people who knew what they were doing, and knew how to treat employees, and then having them one by one leave.

But, I can't possibly even think of quitting, because I have less than 2 weeks to try and find a new place to live. Nobody likes to rent to a guy who's "between jobs," and nobody likes to give a job to someone without an address either. FML.

We call it the Kroger smile (or in other words, an empty, dumb, blank face) !
We try to keep our heads down, put on blinders, and stay out of the line of fire. Sometimes we'll talk each
other down off the edge.
At the end of the day, you're just a light bulb. If you are young, this might not be the job for you, unless you think you can
climb the ladder, good luck, you seem like you're smart.

Same happened to me. It's hard to find a new job when you get comfortable where you're at. Kroger itself is a decent employer, but co-workers and management play a HUGE role in how much you'll enjoy, or totally dread, working there.

There have been several times i have had to "talk down" a fellow employee after dealing with management/customers. It is also good when such employees can take sarcasm and a good laugh.

Talking about managers recently when i started my shift a employee in grocery informed what the "head man" wanted put dips/creamers for a sale. I deal with that first before tending to other matters. A short time later one of the other managers come walking by and informs me i need to fill eggs and yogurt. I look for the eggs and we dont have anymore.

So i start to work some yogurt about halfway from finishing the dolly the employee that informed me of what needed to be done (grocery manager was off so he was doing his role for the day) ask me have i got to this yet. I tell him that so so manager told me to fill up some yogurt. He tells me to just go along but to make sure i get done what he says since the store manager asked. I am also told that this manager has no clue off what he is doing and no one likes him in the store. Personally i have had several encounters with this manager and most of his request seem odd to what actually needs to be done.  So i return to dealing with dips/creamers then backstock other stuff.

not shocking anymore but just sad how "managers" can be so ill equipped as to what need to be done.
