I wonder.....

Kroger is constantly chasing some number on some report. Out of stocks, ring tender, green 1/2 hours, key retailing audits, food safety.  There is one number I am curious about that I bet they could track. I wonder what the Kroger Suicide rates are.

10,000 parts per cubic kilogram, I'd presume.

Probably more.

in years past i'd stocked in every dept except maybe dairy.  it's chill and relaxed, you can see real progress.  you might be tired end of the shift but it's from physical work.  now that i'm stuck up front it's just soul killing.

the customers are already enough to handle, i don't need to be babysitting coworkers or co-managers.  i'm not paid enough for that.  a coworker told me this week i just care too much. it's why i'm burned out at the end of every shift full of BS.

they tell you in FES training to own your front end but that kind of emotional investment is too much.  i hate being red or even yellow when i see it's BS that caused it.

i feel defeated on days when i come in and my dept head has already let chaos reign and get told not to let it get worse and i'll think to myself WTF is wrong with you! we haven't even hit prime time yet but we're already on the verge of red! this is BS! and what were you thinking with this crazy as schedule?

i think i need to find a calmer work environment. even if it's within the store.

I've given it some thought from time to time. :P

But so far the only injuries I've had have been nerve damage in my right index finger from getting (accidentally) crushed in the carts while on 'lot duty.

The damn thing hurts to move it and feels tight at the joint. It wasn't that way before I started working at Kroger. Pretty sure it's mild nerve damage from those stupid carts.

Can someone explain to me about 'on the verge of red'?

I think I have heard this at my store once but don't know what it means.

And yea, Front End effing sucks. I can't believe as a courtesy clerk I put up with that crap.

Last week I had 13 hours. I just got my direct deposit in. You know how much I made after taxes and union? $77 goddamned dollars.

I don't work for $80 a week. Well..I shouldn't, at least. What they ask for is definitely not equal to that figure.

Quevision rates how long our lines are every half hour in terms of the % of customers who were in queue. If 80% or more are, it's a green half hour; less than 80% is a red half hour. Each day you have >90% of your half hours green is a green day. Between 90% and 80% is a yellow day. Less than 80% is a red day.

Holy crap, how do you figure the numbers? Or how does that damn heat sensor do it? I have seen college algebra problems that are easier to solve.

There's 36 half hour periods that count between 6am and midnight.  you subtract the number of dips (below 80%) from 36 and then divide by 36.  so 3 dips gets you 36-3 or 33 / 36 or 91.67% and Green for the Day.
