Well as a courtesy clerk I basically made $77 this past paycheck for 13 hours.

Yea.

And I look at eschedule today and have another 13 coming up next week.

I'm sure it is because we have high schoolers working and that if I wait a few more weeks my hours might perk back up. They were going an average of 16 before school let out.

I just haven't had a call in awhile 'Can you work...'   'Will you come in...'  Even if it is for go-backs in the morning.

Wondering if there is a way to see about getting more hours this way. Been there five months now.

I really hate my life sometimes and it doesn't help that I am doing all a courtesy clerk has to do for $80 a week. That's even below the freaking poverty level.

Being called in should be based on seniority. So to be called in you must convince everyone else to not accept the hours.

At my store you get called in if you have low hours and few days to minimize chances of accidental OT.

Just tell your manager you need more hours and that you will come in if called.  Most managers wont try to cover shifts, because "no one will pick up when we call".   If they know you want to work they will call you.

This.

Often times, the highest in seniority are old, full time people with close to 40 hours/week. Everyone else would be young kids who would probably rather hang out somewhere than be called in to work.

Talk to a manager about giving you more hours. Tell them that you're looking for more hours and they'll more than likely give them to you.

Just make sure not to tell the people with higher seniority if you get called in.  It's not so much that they wanted the shift... they just get mad that you got it.

At 13 hours a week -- spread out over an average of three days with about 4.5 hours per shift -- I am pretty sure I have no chance of getting any OT.

At my store we have at least 2 no call no shows for CC's each day. Then 2-3 cashiers calling in each day. An odd day or two each week an accountant no call no shows. They never bother calling anyone at my store. They give the most hours to the people that work the hardest (that's not very many people) and throw them those available hours regardless of overtime because they know that their favorites will get stuff done. Write a post it note and leave it behind the guestcare desk by the phone area  or on the bar charts asking them to call you if there's any call ins or extra help is needed for a day. That helps almost all the time. However, your mileage may vary based on your stores size and # of employees.
