All this crap about getting only 12---18 hours per week makes me hair ball puking SICK. Folks, I don't know what the answer is here, but understand that you're not making enough money to even afford McNasty meals. All that's happening is this conglomerate dollar sucking bitch is USING YOU to get even richer.

I would get the fk out of there. I mean, what would you be losing?

For many employees, a lot.

Remember, across retail we're all expendable in one way or another. The stores that offer more benefits and pay are gonna be even more competitive, and those stores will be VERY selective.

Believe me, people including myself are trying to find a job to replace this one. Many people are. If they've found one, they would've been gone a long time ago.

For others, they're already in too deep. Those 10-year employees in the produce section won't really have anywhere else to go, unfortunately.

This applies to me and is true. While I've never had below 14 hours, it's still pretty bad. A check less than $150 just makes me throw up honestly. Even eating at home and using a crap phone is considered luxury with our pay. And the only retailers that pay exceptionally well with fantastic benefits (think Costco, Aldi) are about as selective as Ivy League schools when it comes to bringing aboard a cashier or stocker. And if I could get a call back from either, I'd gladly go to an interview and be as professional as I possibly could. I can't say I haven't tried, and I'm still continually on the search for better employment.

You're only as stuck as you believe you are. I didn't say it was easy---nothing good ever is----but it is attainable. I know from personal experience.

Of course it is. I could start anew if I needed to, since I've been with Kroger for barely a year.

Unfortunately, those who need to get out would need a helping hand. If the best they can do is keep sending out applications left and right, then that's how it's gonna be, and pray that they get called up for something better.

I understand that a job isn't gonna fall from heaven after one puts on his job hat and takes a roadtrip to Jobville. But, I wouldn't want someone to live in a fairy tale where they believe that they can get out of being stuck with only a short struggle if all they can do is cut fruit for hours on end.

Well.. then again, there's quite a number of line cooks who cut fruit quite well for display and/or garnish in those fancy restaurants. So I guess there's that.

Well at the moment I would be losing the only income I have coming in.

So yea, it blows. I made $77 on this past paycheck with 13 hours. That's after the $7 union dues and whatever I got removed for taxes.

But that's $80 more than I would have had if I was unemployed and looking.

I am beefing up my attempts at finding work somewhere else. It's just rough under the current circumstances I have outside of Kroger.

But if someone ever says 'When can you start' I would say 'now' and never look back at Kroger again. As a courtesy clerk they ask way too much for far too little. I keep expecting to end up in the hospital from the parking lot, either some clueless ******* on their cell phone will hit me bringing in carts or I'll drop with heat exhaustion or a heart attack from working three hours in a four hour shift in the lot in the Georgia weather.

$77. For 13 hours. Yea. *sighs* But I'd rather make that than $0.00.

Ever notice that the family of Sam Walton will never have to worry about a paycheck in their lives...It's not even a blip on their radar, and this is why...

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2013-09-12/how-wal-mart-s-waltons-maintain-their-billionaire-fortune-taxes.html

And if you think any of them care, think again!

...Meanwhile, the rest of us here in Realityland have real issues to deal with, but with Kroger, like with all strong medicines, the benefits outweigh the risks...

In the future, move to a state that doesn't collect state income tax. Mine doesn't, and for 13 hours I can take home about $90 after every necessary deductions.

Also, keep in mind that the largest group of welfare beneficiaries are those employed in Walmart. Then there's other places like McDonalds and that stuff. Basically, the low wage employers.

It's not all retailers though. My sister works at Nordstrom. She gets paid $16/hour plus commission on everything she runs through in a transaction. With that type of salary, she's quite well off than I am.

Make yourself unavailable for two days in a week. Use that time to work another job. Nobody should be thinking that part time at a supermarket is going to be sufficient income, especially courtesy clerks.

Y'all can keep putting up with this miserable bull sht or not: Your choice. I'm saying, I've been there, and I opted out, and that if I can do it...................You can too.

I'll be honest. I can quit the job and still be well off. I just like getting a little side income. My parents (hey y'all, I'm not even 19 yet) are urging me to quit and focus on studies than work part-time.

Actually, I might just leave mid-August before the term starts. I've banked quite a bit of what little Kroger pays me, so I got that going, which is nice.
