Called out for the first time
Permalink

I had to call out last night on my way to the ER, the night time manager was not a manager in produce and there wasn't even anybody in produce at the time, I told them what my name was, when I come in and who to call to cover my shift. all he did was leave a note that I called out... I called the assistant manager this morning at 6 something so I could make sure he got it and they could call the other cut fruit, he was nice and so is my manager, I just am a little worried that I could lose my job since I haven't even been there 45 days yet.

I gave them plenty of notice (what I could) I called at 11:30ish pm and normally I go in at 4am, I also have a note from the hospital for work proving I was there and at what time I was in. I had like the worst kidney stones of my life (i'm prone to them but this was the worst) I was given instructions to rest and drink lots of fluids plus take pain pills, pain was so bad morphine didn't do much. I'm just worried since I'm still in the "trail" period of my job, I know they can fire for just about anything but since I have the note, I called with enough notice and it was a trip to the ER is it still a possibility?

I love my job (even with all the negatives) and it took 5 years to get one so I can't lose it right now :(

it's not necessary take in your note anyway, it'll show you're a serious minded person.

if you're work ethic is good they probably won't let you go but keep in mind within that 45 days they can let you go for any reason or no reason.

on my front end i can't believe some of the people they've let stay.

They're not going to fire you over something like that unless they're real dickheads.

If you have your note, then if they still fire you, they're real a-holes.

I think you'll be fine though as long as you have understanding management. :)

My manager never even reported it, plus he knows what kidney stones feel like so he understood completely, still a little concerned when somebody walked in and said there are applications on the managers desk but I think it's to replace the lazy/dumb closers.

Don't worry about that. This company's turnover is so high that you'll pretty much always be hiring.

Lol yeah especially my store, every week it seems we have at least 5 new hires, different departments but still, other than the night crew and full time I keep meeting more and more new hires, and that's sad since I'm technically a new hire...
