Is working in money services the same job level and pay rate as cashier?

But it's a lot less monotony. Also in a few years you could get a backup position. In my division the base rate is $17.65 an hour.

I don't understand money services.  We've always cashed checks and gave money orders.

"Money Services" includes debit cashing, money order cashing, KPF credit applications, gift card sales, western union, bill payments, etc.

Actually working money services is a lot worse because you get breaks a lot later, you usually get angrier customers (if they came back to the store because a bagger crushed bread then they're already pissy), you have to answer the phone, and you have to wait YEARS for someone to die before getting that ACSM position, which, by the way, is no less of a suckfest than your run-of-the-mill retention center position. A retention center actually gives you decent money though and there is zero face to face interaction with idiots.

Idk about having to wait so long for an acsm position to open up; we have 4 open right now in my 18 store district alone. Also, I love running the office; it breaks up the monotony and stress of running the floor 40 hours every week, allows me to take care of any of like 1000 side tasks I would never have time for otherwise, and is much more technical than the floor.

I'd rather work in retention. If it weren't for quotas and whatnot, it'll be a much better job than money services. You get to stick to a script that you can say with the most undignified expression in your face, but it wouldn't matter since the person on the other end of the line can't see you.

Plus, you can put them on indefinite hold or just pass it off to a different department.

In ATL division it is.  So is the bookkeeper.  Even the ACSM (front end backup) makes the same plus 50 cents premium.

the desk is hard because the shifts are long and a 30 min break doesn't feel like enough, the work can be stressful, the customers jerks, the money you handle serious.

I can't believe bookkeeper isn't given some sort of premium. That's the one job on the front end besides file maintenance that actually requires you to be an intelligent being.

Not necessarily, unfortunately.

I spoke with my union rep yesterday and he told me it was a level 3 position with a raise.  By next month after training I should make $1.10 more per hour.

And that's ONLY IF they decide to answer. And as for breaks, can't you just lock off your area and say "services are closed will be back in xxx (however long your breaks are 10-15 min) I'm sure the customer can wait during that time. That's what our person that works the booth area (money services) does.

If you've actually rolled out $ service, that's a bad idea. The services available behind the desk are supposed to be available without interruption during the hours posted. Just shutting down the desk to go take a break is a cardinal sin.

Then I'd be one of the biggest sinners. Because when it's my break time, I take my breaks as assigned.
Hmmm... Maybe they need to schedule enough help so one could take a break from that area.
