Coupons not scanning plz help.

I really find it hard and stressful that when I am given a coupon it doesn't scan...especially the store coupons and the Catalina ones that's pretty much the only thing that slows me down otherwise I'm a pretty good cashier. Can anyone tell me the exact steps to take when a coupon doesn't scan? This is my 4th day and it's sad I still don't understand it. I find it embarrassing to go up to my floor supervisor and have them write it down or tell me I'd feel like a idiot no

Make sure they bought the exact item described in the coupon. If they didn't, ask them if they want to get it, or save this one for later. If they did, Override.

make sure you've scanned the actual item, make sure the item is correct for that coupon, scan the coupon, press clear, override, enter, total

if it requires an M override then get a supervisor.

1) There's also some Kroger coupons that the system rejects, and doesn't let anyone override (usually the FREE coupons). They can be quite nasty, I've seen a "FREE Cheerios" coupon get rejected, even though the size was correct and it wasn't expired, because the Cheerios were Honey Nut (nowhere on the coupon did it state "Regular Cheerios" or anything...).

2) Sometimes a coupon just plain won't *scan*, like the barcode doesn't even pick it up (fairly common with Catalina coupons). For those, I *believe* you hit MFR COUPON, type in the amount, then ring it up as a keyring? I might be wrong though.

It does say on the coupon that it has to be regular cheerios... if it said "any" cheerios then they could get the honey nut version but it specifically says "cheerios"

I've had to explain this many times.

 1. For my store, if it never specified what type/kind of product, we give it to them.

2. [MFR COUPON], [KEY DEPARTMENT], [price/discount on coupon], [ENTER], [CLEAR], [OVERRIDE], [ENTER]. Or, have a supervisor override it if it's an M override.

If the coupon was intended to be only for the plain variety, it will specify only the plain variety. Corporate may intend for it to work the way you describe, but if they don't specify something, they shouldn't expect it to be obvious.

Most stores forbid that in order to keep track of what mfr coupons are charged to what department.

At my store, we've always (been here 3 years) operated under "if it doesn't require a manager's override, then just override the coupon. If it does, then just keyring it" system. No one has ever said a word to me or anyone else about it. We just override and move on. It's not worth the .50 to check over $200 load of groceries to make sure they got that item. Just give it to them and move on. At least that's how we do it. While I'm not a manager or supervisor or anything, they rely on me to help the newbs learn the way we do things, and show them all the little tricks to make thinks move along.

Wouldn't it say Free Cheerios, Any Variety if it was for any of them?

"Cheerios" is the flavor, isn't it? The original boring old plain Cheerios :P

No, I've seen enough of these coupons and others to know, that if a coupon is supposed to be for a specific item, something on the coupon will show that.

It's one of those things that look easy, simple, and cushy to those who don't do it, but in actuality is a skilled labor when performed properly.

He probably did it for his parents or for something that didn't need it anyway. At my store you can be written up for NOT 6809ing a coupon that was printed badly.

Oh I don't think it's easy at all.

I can barely do cash transactions as i'm in the bakery where we don't even have our own register. I never got trained on the one in the deli so I just have to wing it if I have to use it.

there's no way i could keep up speed at doing all transactions.

Sign on and keep scanning. Instructions/notices that come up make sense and are clear if one has a good grasp of the English language. If you don't know the price of something... well... if it's a bakery item then you should know. :P Otherwise, haggle if you're busy.

I was trained to enter "30021" if a coupon won't scan and enter the value of the coupon. That code is the store coupon.

30021 and 30022 are STORE coupon codes because they are meant to be used for STORE coupons, not MANUFACTURER coupons. For mfr coupons, you're supposed to use the dept key codes. That being said, do whatever your bosses tell you; it's safer that way unless you're someone like me who's high enough that they get to question and adjust policies and procedures at the store level.
