What the hell is "Rock & Roll 80"?

Every day while I'm working, I hear a manager come over the speaker and say. "All departments, it's time for rock & roll 80."

No idea. Maybe it's your management code phrase meaning time for 8-balls and strippers.

You think that is bad?
At our store we get the "ding, ding, ding! Attention shoppers! It is time for our associates to check the status of our ... to ensure its freshness."
Since I got screwed last Sunday clearing the parking lot and wasn't able to clock out until nearly 11:30 p.m. I was at our store around midnight.
IT STILL DOES THAT AT MIDNIGHT.

I wonder if any of our customers actually hear or recognize that stupid automated "announcement."
It's not like when it happens that we suddenly have grocery clerks running around the store peeking into frozen sections.

Oh that will bring the scores up--going out and bothering customers while they're trying to shop.

"Excuse me, have you seen how cheap our bread is!"
Er..I meant, "Our prices are so low even you can afford them!"
Wait. What I MEANT WAS, "We have low prices on bread!"

the freshness checks are to remind employees to check the temperatures of the cold cases.

It's the cue that it is time for the 'service blitz'.  Everyone is supposed to walk around and interact with customers as well as offer samples for 5 minutes or so.  Every store has their own slogan that they came up with to announce it.

That is the gayest thing I have ever heard of. My store doesn't make us do this. It sounds like an absolute waste of time and energy.

No, the freshness checks are a separate announcement that means to stop everything and condition.

"Rock and roll 80s?" If it's for engagement, we just get the occasional "all associates, 3A's please". All three A's stand for asskissing, btw.
