Okay, so, a little backstory first. I first was hired at Kroger in July 2010 as a bagger making $7.35/hr starting and worked there through the summer after I graduated high school. I quit in August 2012 making $8.10/hr to go to college an hour away. I didn't want to quit, but I was told that the whole "you can stay as long as you come back and work once every 2 weeks" thing, which I was more than willing to do, was not true (which I still think was a lie but.. whatever). Anyway, went to college, wasn't all it was cracked up to be, so after my first year I transferred to a university in my hometown and looked into getting my job at Kroger back.
In May 2013 (so like an 8 month gap) I was re-hired as a "new hire", but in floral this time. The hiring manager remembered me and she gave me "experience pay" since I had worked there before, meaning I started as a floral clerk at $8.35/hr, so making 15 cents more than I had been when I quit as a bagger. So now, it's been a year and 4 or so months of being a floral clerk and I still have no idea how raises work. How often do you get them? Right now, I am at $8.65/hr so I've gone up 30 cents over the span of almost a year and a half. However, a girl who was hired as a bagger /literally/ on the same day as me back in 2010 is making $10 something as a produce clerk. Granted, I know she never had that gap where she quit like I did, but still, only 8 months difference and she's making $2 more than me? I talked to her about it and she said, "I don't know, it was weird. At some point last year I just kept getting raise after raise and now I'm capped out for part time."
My other gripe is that I spent 2 years of my life working for Kroger as a bagger and just because I quit for 8 months, its literally like it doesn't exist anymore. Yes, I know it was my doing, but still. Just so frustrating that I lost all that seniority and basically worked for 2 years for nothing (besides the measly $60 paychecks every week). I just wish it was actually acknowledged seniority and pay-wise that I've worked there for almost 4 years, not 1 1/2.

You're out of luck. You quit. It may vary by your contract but in the Atl division contract it clearly states seniority is broken if you quit for six months and return. Feel lucky you got the experience pay and suck it up. Raises in that division are a nickel every six months for part time.
Yeah, yeah.. I said I know it's my fault. I totally understand the seniority thing, just sucks. I didn't know about the 6 months thing, so thanks for that. Also, I suppose I should've mentioned I'm in the Columbus, Ohio division.
lol, I sort of agree. Definitely set your goals higher tho.
To OP: How do you know the person is making $10 an hour? I think they are blowing smoke up your butt. In my division, it took 4 long hard years to hit $10. Now, new hires are starting at $8.15.
Be glad you got the experience pay. And be glad you have time to smell the roses.
Ignore what other people are making. Use this job to progress into bigger and better things in life. Focus on school and set your goals higher than a petty $1.65 payrate difference. If she is the department manager or lead, then she would make more fast.

Ok, OP, what I'm reading is that you basically are making exactly what you should be, if ot more. You didn't "work 2 years for nothing". You quit while making 8.10, were gone 8 months, and started back making .25 more than when you quit. Now, 16 months after that, you've only gained another .30 so, honestly, looking at how quickly your recent raises have been, you're actually possibly making more right now than if you had never quit.

My thoughts exactly. OP is already making more than about 1/3 of the people in his store and some chick in produce is making $10/hr so he feels entitled to $10. Well, newsflash OP, but in some contracts raises are given based on hours worked, not time elapsed.
I worked at Kroger for a year and two months finishing out at $8.05.... I left for five months and came back and was rehired making $8.20 for experience... They just hired this new lady with no experience and she is making $9.00...
