So I dunno if theres some kind of flu going around but lately the baggers at my store have just been dropping like flies. We've lost three in the past week, and then two before that.... and when i say quit I mean "Johnny didn't come into work to day... *three hours later* oh, he's on the phone apparently he's quitting." This is a really ****ed up thing to do because the management then turns to the remaining troops and says "YOU MUST WORK HARRDDEERRR *whip crack*". I was literally on carts all day yesterday, 9-2, 105 degrees outside because guess what there was *nobody* else to get carts. Yeah, it was bad.
.....I just think like, a lot of the things the store does are really dumb. For example, most of our courtesy clerks are combos. That's pretty cool for them because they get more hours and are paid more. However, the system still sees them as baggers and not cashiers so... lets say they figure they need 3 baggers for a shift right? So they schedule 3 combos. However, these combos *also* count for cashiers. So, if you need 3 baggers and 3 cashiers for a shift then they'll schedule 3 combos to *save money* or whatever. However, that results in absolutely terrible results. Namely, the combos get stuck on the registers for the entire shift and there is no one to bag, or to do carts, or go backs. Then managment goes... Hey courtesy clerk! You can bag and do carts and do sweeps and do go backs all at the same time yeah? Totally!
I think they just make courtesy clerks combos so that they don't have to pay them cashier wages. Everyone here is obsessed with OSAT but like, if they had I dunno the fastest people be cashiers and the other people be baggers and if they paid the baggers a little more, (or if they scaled you up based on how long you worked there, like other departments) then the customers wouldn't have to bag their own groceries all the time, there'd be carts in the cart area, and the department people could actually get their work done instead of being overpaid baggers.
Ha ha, your combos get paid more? Lucky them. I remember when I wanted to be a combo, because they got paid more. Then the minimum wage went up, so I could have just stayed a bagger and made the exact same rate I do now, only without having to do carts AND work the registers for the hordes of entitled, whiny, sullen customers.
But maybe I could always quit. Just get myself an EBT card, maybe pump out a few kids, and start handing cashiers wads of WIC checks and an unsorted pile of items and pay for the rest from my stack of crisp hundred dollar bills that I want to break so why not treat the supermarket like a bank. Oh and then get myself a debit card, and always select cash-back in the highest allowed amount, without telling the cashier so if he doesn't have it, he has to scramble to get me my well-earned money. Faster, faster, peon!
