Thinking of switching departments (from front end) and I just wanted to know what you guys think about the departments. Please tell me what you think of yours in terms of:
Pay
Hours
Full Time Feasibility
Physical Difficulty
Mental Difficulty
Common Tasks
Average Time Spent on a Register
Your overall satisfaction (Hey, OSAT!) of the department
Feel free to add additional comments, rants, or stories. I'd love to hear them all.
pharmacy is the best. They don't get called to run register and you can move up into a tech position that pays really well!
Top 3: Pharmacy Grocery (Night) Meat
I picked night grocery cause that is where I have been for over 6 years. I am waiting for Bagboy to join us. I think he could run circles around the three part time jokers they call day crew.
Sheesh! I have seen them move vendor items over half a foot so they can cram our stock on the shelf sideways. Stack toilet paper 8 foot high on top shelf. Roll backstock uboat out to aisle, look at it and then roll it back to the parking spot. Then, when prime time review comes around, the Grocery manager thinks that aisle has been run and ZEROS half the stuff still on the uboat out. I leave at 8:30 am. I just finished running aisle 4 backstock. They come in at 10am and rerun aisle 4 backstock and hide half the backstock all over the aisle and even under the shelf.
I like the hours on grocery night shift. When I get up and head to work, people are laying down to go to sleep. When I get off work, people are getting up to go to work. I love being a night owl. Makes me feel like a werewolf in a night owl's body with a top hat and a nice pair of slacks on to keep my legs from getting cold in the winter season whenever there's no one home to keep my house warm because my roommate forgot to turn the thermostat down to 82 degrees like I told them to, but they were too busy running an errand all day that should have been taken care of a few days prior, but simply forgot to do it simply due to being on Twitter all day.
You'll get your full time and usually overtime.
You won't have to deal with customers and managers until the last couple hours of your shift.
You won't have to ever be on a register.
You can listen to music if your foreman is cool with it.
You get a premium $2 hour more for 12am-6am.
Yes, you will bust your ass.
Possibly the hardest job physically, but the easiest job for not having to deal with bull****.
I was told I would get a $1.00 for 3rd shift grocery stock. Is it different depending on the state you live in or which union you are covered under. I am in the Cincinnati/ Dayton Division.
The front end isn't that bad once you get to a certain position. I work the customer service desk during the second shift. Once I clean up the area, and the returns/lotto/western unions every so often, I pull out a magazine and drink a Monster. Sure, I'll jump out and help my crew when they are getting swamped. Once I close down my crew on registers, I send them off to do carts or go backs. I'll throw one of them on uscan and go wipe down registers myself. I have my routine and it's usually easy sailing.
