Bakery Markdowns

So now, in our division, the markdowns have to be put in the little corner "manager specials" section.  Annoying.  For one they are losing money and 2 on those crazy days where you are lucky to have just gotten it done...then have to tromp it over to the other end of the store....argh.

Okay, to start with:

Kroger would lose MORE money if they didn't mark it down and just threw it away.

Second: Meat and Seafood has a LOT more markdowns than you will have (we have to check ALL the lunchmeat, hot dogs, bacon,  etc, in addition to our fresh meat.) And we have always had to put it in the managers special section. Stop complaining and do your job

Yea produce has their own markdown section and grocery/GM have a markdown section too. Putting markdowns in one section is actually good because otherwise people would probably miss it.

We have a little cart that we put our markdowns on. It only makes sense to have them separated. Do them early and people actually buy them.

If you don't have enough time to spend less than an hour to do markdowns then your department is screwed up. They probably need to hire more people or give more hours (like that'll happen).

I work at the biggest store in my area, and trust me, people have no problem finding all the different markdown areas.

This. 4/5 customers literally head straight to where the bakery markdown cart is and see what's on there. We also had people ask for the cart to be moved to more "convenient" places like next to the milk or closer to the registers.

Then every now and then people would ask me what time are the good marked down. I never really could answer them apart from "early morning" though, since even I myself didn't know.

Lol yea. I was once nearly tempted to give a customer the schedule of our DSD guy for the rest of the week.

Hey...BITE ME.  I work my tail off thank you very much.  And there are a LOT more markdowns left over than there used to be when they were keptout in the baked goods area.  Geez.

Because it's SO hard to stack all the stuff you're marking down, count how many of each, print labels, stick it on markdown, and wheel it to a corner? Damn. Must be very difficult. And don't give that "well I gotta bake X and bag Y". The other departments I mentioned have to unload trucks (which I know bakery doesn't do), break pallets down, stock shelves, and hope that Bakery/Deli has come around to get their crap so there's room in the freezer to store anything in. On top of that, they can be called up front to bag and get carts.

Boo hoo.

I see that you've never done markdowns for Dairy/Frozen or Drug GM. They're 10x as hard as bakery.

Remind me when was the last time picking up a pie almost broke your arm or gave your frostbite.

You sissies and your frostbite.
If you want to warm up, come grab some carts with us courtesy clerks in the 90-degree heat in the parking lot.
Oh and be sure to bring your gloves because you will be picking trash out of every two or three carts.
Our customers are some disgusting people.

90? How weak. I did it for two months under 100°F+. I'm sure you know the pain of having to sit on the motor scooter when it's been out on the lot for even five minutes.

And that's not all. I've brought carts while battling freezing rain, sleet, and waves of customers who are trying to buy essentials before the roads freeze.

So, yeah, don't assume that all I've ever done is stock. Remember, I've worked virtually all non-service departments, sans produce.

You treat fetching carts as if it requires a HazMat endorsement from the ****ing DOT. I've done the job numerous times during Thanksgiving Eve and Christmas Eve rushes and I can tell you now that it is a ridiculously easy task if you're aware of your surroundings. Come sling milk with me or unload water and then we can talk manual labor.

Lord_Uboat! xD

And yes. I liked slinging milk crates. They helped me develop more muscle than pushing carts. And the water pallets... man, they were difficult. I'm only 5'3" and I often load the the L carts at least five or six high. Unfortunately, we can't bring pallets out unless it's past 10PM.

Unload trucks?

I work in the bakery and we put our own trucks away too, thanks you very much :P
But maybe some stores are different.

Perhaps.

Well, the bakery in the store I worked in was ALWAYS understaffed. And deli, too. The stockers need to clear the receiving area as quickly as possible so they don't have a choice other than to break down pallets that can be broken down.

And since bakery/deli stuff are often mixed in with everyone else's, really, we didn't have much choice then apart than hope that deli/bakery comes get their stuff.

The bakery manager tries his best to get his stuff whenever he can. As for deli, 9/10 times we have to bring them their ****, unfortunately.

I've actually gotten mild burns from it through my pants.
Nothing that has lasted longer than a minute or two, but damn, did it hurt.

And that's not all. I've brought carts while battling freezing rain, sleet, and waves of customers who are trying to buy essentials before the roads freeze.

Here in the Atlanta market if someone says "snow" it is like rioting in Los Angeles. Nothing is sacred. Every person for themselves.
Water, milk and bread are the first to go. Apparently people like making french toast when the power goes out.
You think some of those Black Friday Thanksgiving sales are horrid? Try having people clear the shelves when the news media mention 'snow' or 'ice'.
In Georgia that's like saying "WE'RE ALL GONNA DIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE THIS IS THE END"
So I guess people want to be buried with bread and milk just in case the Walking Dead happens and they wake up craving brains and a side item.

So, yeah, don't assume that all I've ever done is stock. Remember, I've worked virtually all non-service departments, sans produce.
