So I was taking a late lunch yesterday (worked a 5-2 but took my lunch at 10:45 Due to unforeseen problems with a no show. No problem... OT right?? WRONG!! Not even 15 min into my lunch I got called up front to sack. Ignored. Next it was lot duty. Ignored. So our ASM comes tearing back there like a bat out of hell. DEMANDING to know why I had the "audacity" to ignore calls. I told him I was on lunch. He damn neat threw a fit. He then asked if I wanted to clock back in early and leave early. I told him, no thanks I'm ok. He damn near exploded. He kept bugging off and in during my ENTIRE lunch. Finally after lunch I spoke to the store manager and told him with the ASM within earshot, 'I DO NOT like being hassled on MY lunch hour. I don't bug anyone on theirs so I EXPECT the same courtesy. The manager said he understood and apologized. It turns out 2 baggers called out. But that's STILL NOT a good reason to bug someone in their lunch.
For the rest of the day the ASM looked like he wanted to destroy my soul. Today he looks like he just wants to kill me and I am "public enemy #1" to him. Guess he calmed down since yesterday.
I understand you're on lunch and it's your time, and your certainly entitled to that time, but why not have simply picked up the phone and called the front end to inform them that you were on lunch? I do that when I'm on break, should someone not be aware of that and page me.

Ha, we get that a lot, too. But if I am on break and hear "all courtesy clerks to the front" I sure as hell am not sacrificing the mere 15 minutes I am given to leave my break early. Even if I pick something up before clocking in I still lose one to two minutes getting to the break room after clocking out and then getting everything ready to eat.
Two courtesy clerks (I HATE the word 'baggers') out is a bad thing, but at our store they just call in other departments. One of the guys who works dairy and is mostly stocker for them ends up having to come up all the time. Floral has to show up now and then. We have even had deli come up to bag. It's hideous. But it's also Kroger. They never have a back-up plan. They never have enough resources. They never use common sense or work around each other for the better of the customer and the employees. And they never will as long as they continue the path they are on now and have been for awhile. Fixing up or getting rid of Que Vision would be a good start.
This is why i always take my breaks and lunches outside in my car.
[Edit:] You should have explained that "audacity" is a sound editor. It's free to use as well!

I love Audacity :) Making everyone sound like chipmunks is what I live for.
And ditto. I try to stay the hell out of the store whenever I'm on a break of any kind. If you tried to call a manager on her lunch break would she pick up the phone? I don't think so.
Lunch break is YOURS, and you have the right to it, uninterrupted. No exceptions. Doesn't matter if the whole store called in, they are completely out of carts, furious customers are attacking the one open cashier like savage beasts, or any other lame excuses. You have the RIGHT to ignore the speakers during breaks.
Happened to me as well. I clocked out for my lunch and had to make a call then get some food since there are some fast food place near. I get back from my lunch and clock in and a few minutes after i start to stock one of the managers from the front end was looking for something in the back and made some side comment to me, " i called you but you didnt show up". I brushed it off and went back to stocking.
I am going to take my breaks and lunch during my shift. Am i suppose to alert everyone that "hey i am on break".....um NO!

Where I normally work on the front end I ask the Supervisor if it's alright for me to take a break then I need to let someone know that it's their turn on the lot. Clock out buy my items then go out to my car.

Soon enough management will have an app that pinpoints our location in the store and our pulse to know just how hard we are working. So be careful if Kroger ever tries to give you a free fitness band!

Yeah, next year they will probably be adding microchips to our name tags and track our bathroom breaks.
