My new meat dept. head has a thing for leaving the morning delivery to be broken down by the closing crew. Our truck comes in at 6 am so I believe it should be broken down first thing, as our last manager did. This guy leaves it for me and the other closer to do. $ of them in the morning and 2 of us at night. No reason they can't do it. And then they complain that the closes aren't good enough. No ****. We have to spend the first half of the closing shift doing day shifts job. No wonder the closes suck.

It is up to the meat department manager to decide when the truck gets broken down.
It makes logical sense to break it down when it arrives and then let the closers run whatever daycrew doesn't get to. This way, daycrew can fill holes and low spots.
But, no, your manager has more important things to do than to make the work flow better.
Follow directions and do your job. It is up to the department manager to make the department run smoother. Keep general track of where your time is spent so if you are ever asked why work isn't getting done, then you can explain.
In my department we break down the truck in the mornings. Its better this way so you can make sure your invoices are correct. As i am breaking the truck I'll work that product out into the counter.
I do however leave the black case ready totes for the nightime people to break down and finish organzing the cooler.
