When I left, we had ten shopping carts of go-backs.

The worst I have ever seen it in Front End since I started nearly nine months ago.

I left feeling more disappointed and disillusioned than usual.

How the hell could my store let that happen?
Ten damn carts.
I mentioned them to my Front End Floor at one point and she said "We're too busy."

Mentioned it to another after I clocked out telling him "This was one of the closest days I came to quitting."
He said "Not everyone is on the same page."

Seriously, this store has been open long enough and dealt with similar if not this exact issue before; the hell can they let 10 shopping carts just sit there?
I guarantee you that at least 5% of it was shrink. I know I personally moved an orange juice and a box of garlic bread out of one of them.

I think my thought of quitting just came from being so disappointed and just tired of my store.
They should have had a plan of some kind in place, maybe told one of the courtesy clerks to at least organize the carts (or try to...none of them were organized).
But...no. Just sat there. Glad I got off at 7 p.m. because I don't want to and didn't want to know how they were going to handle those go-backs.

Same old crap. So busy that we can't even touch them.
And between pushing the damn shopping carts and bagging for hours on end I think go-backs are among the most tame parts of my job. Oh well.

That is bad. They should of immediately taken all the perishables out and put them back. The dry goods could stay unTil it slowed down but NOT the perishables.

Ten carts of go backs (we've always called it overstock) just because EBT went down?  You must work at a ghetto store.  EBT was down at my store too.  So it must have been a network thing.  Did you all put a sign up at the entrance saying EBT was down?  We did.

That never seems to stop folks.  Most people aren't paying attention when they walk into the store.  Then they get up to the checkstand and end up storming out.

Im not sure why anybody would quit over go backs.  They're just like house cleaning, they never really stop or go away.

stop letting crap like that get to you. it doesn't matter. you don't pay for the shrink, it doesn't come out of your paycheck. youre not a manager or lead so you're not going to get yelled at for it.

it's okay.

even if they have 30 go-back carts. it's not your responsibility.

Not a ghetto store.
Just a really god damned busy one.
So busy that we never have enough staff on Front End to handle the go backs.

Yesterday when I came in from lot there were ten carts.
When I left there were about five.

Que-Vision also said eight lanes were open.

I wish there was a like button!

KiDNA like I said in another thread, if this bothers you life is gonna be rough!  Or life must be pretty good if you come home and this is at the top of the list to bitch about!

Was it Kroger's or the State's fault EBT was down?

I didn't consider it because of the go backs per say.
It was a strong feeling of disbelief and disappointment in my bosses and my company that nothing was done to handle the situation.
This store has been open long enough that some sort of policy should be on the books or something should be ready to go in case of a situation like that.

I guess I was thinking "Wow, if they are this inept now, what about me as a single employee, what would happen if I ever needed them for help or assistance?"

Or something like that. It was just really f-u-ck-ed up. There was no way even with our poor staffing choices for labor times on Front End that we should have let those carts get like that. Heck when I left at 7 p.m. there STILL wasn't any move made to empty or sort the carts. Going in in a few minutes and I hate to think what i will find.

No, FrontEndSlave's anger is actually well-placed on this thread. Imagine just how wasteful Kroger was by not ensuring the perishables were restocked. In this ****ING CHAOTIC period of time, where Kroger is cutting corners until a sphere appears, they probably let $300 worth of perishables...perish.

What's funny is the same bi-tc-h of a manger whom two days ago I saw just throw items into one of our goback carts today had to spend more than an hour sorting through the carts into various aisles and departments. I got an internal evil grin and chuckle watching her have to do it. She came down on me today telling me my bagging techniques were wrong because I was not following our stupid 'strive for five' policy. Took me aside and asked me what I could have done better on the order that I just did. Thing is, I bag so many orders per day I can't recall the order I just bagged let alone one five or six or ten ago. I said I go so fast and she was like "Yes, you need to slow down" then tried to give me some bull-shi-t about how we need to save the environment because the customer doesn't want to go home with 30 bags or whatever. God I hate that woman. She is such an arrogant know-it-all bit-ch.

Point being, they started going after the go-backs today.
I took a photo before I left two nights ago to document how it looked. I looked at the picture this afternoon and it seemed to be closer to 13-14 carts.
When I left tonight there were still about six or seven to go.

One more thing to add. Yes it *is* my responsibility because i'm a goddamned courtesy clerk and they use US to get those gobacks to..well, go back.
so sooner or later I am going to have to deal with them, either through taking them back, helping to sort or just having to walk and move around the carts as I move from register to register bagging groceries.

We are in the atlanta metro market here in georgia.
our store is among one of the busiest in our region.
Hence why we never have enough staff to get things done.
Staff, resources, time......we never have enough of any of it to have the store running properly.
And they wonder why people like myself seem to have attitude problems or not give a damn.
Apathy should be in the 10 for $10 boxes at my store, because we have so much of it.

10 carts gobacks?!? Hell man, if that happened at our store each and every employee there would be in for a bad time. Management throws a fit if there are 3 baskets. If there was 10.., let's just say you don't want to go there. Go backs are, have been, and ALWSYS will be an issue at our store, but we stay on top of them.

So for those who complain about my complaining...and whine about my whining...THIS is what it looked like two nights ago at around 8:30 p.m. at our store.
This is the sort of crap why I am always complaining about working underneath our Front End.
For all that my manager claims she knows 20 years of Kroger she sure has no plans in place to work around situations like this one.

I blacked out the window glare from our store and blurred anything I thought could show the location.
I've never made it a secret we are in the Atlanta market but for obvious reasons I want to keep the exact location completely out of this forum.

EBT went down and this happened

Edit: Difficult to tell the exact number from my angle of the photograph, but I would say, if you include the small carts, we've got about 14-15 carts of gobacks here.
Keep in mind that when I started my shift that afternoon we already had about six.

Clearly you aren't working fast enough. They should give you half your usual hours this week, so you'll have to learn how to become twice as efficient!

We can't stay on top of ours because of staffing problems. We just don't have enough courtesy clerks.
The one time about a week or so ago when I came in two hours early to work gobacks,  I was told by my floor supervisor that once my regular shift started, I would have to go back to bagging. But why did you call me in unless you wanted gobacks out of the way? I know the store well enough by now to be able to clear a full cart in less than 10-15 minutes, depending on aisle or items.

Every time we get carts of gobacks, we just don't have the manpower.
If I step away to try to do gobacks, I have to go back to bagging literally two minutes later or less.
The few times I have grabbed, I get called over the intercom to come back. That's if I am able to grab in the first place.
They use one of our cashiers after 9 p.m. right now, and then whatever courtesy clerks they think they can spare when we get around to doing go-backs, which at the moment is almost always at night.

The courtesy clerk who comes in at 6 a.m. is supposed to do gobacks, but, again, if he or she is needed as a bagger, guess what? You have to return like a human yo-yo with your string tied to the registers. Because god forbid that a customer has to bag their own groceries or wait an extra minute or two.

It's pathetic. It's disgusting. It's shrink as annoying and bad as you can imagine.
It's among several reasons why if I can't transfer out of Front end I plan to put my two weeks notice in soon.
This store has been open long enough to be able to handle this sort of thing. So why can't it handle it?
"Not everyone is on the same page," according to one of my floor supervisors.
no s--t. At this rate we're a freaking novel with some at chapter 29 and others in chapter 3.

I have made no secret about hating my Front End Manager. The woman is a fat, ugly, arrogant, know-it-all, people-skill-missing bit-ch.
She claims to have 20 years with Kroger. The evidence in my photograph and everything I have written here about gobacks and her behavior are why I don't take her seriously. I just nod my head, wait for her to go away and go back to doing what I was doing the way that I was doing it because the customers don't care, they only want to go home.

Fifteen carts of gobacks with EBT down. *sighs*

Who carea?  Are you or front end slave paying for it?  If the company wants to waste their own money who are you to say otherwise.  This is probably going to written off as waste.

Did you get a car or move to a new area?  I remember you telling me a couple of weeks ago that  you work for evil Kroger because your options were limited... Did your options expand?  I don't know you and I couldn't really care if you shoot yourself in the for but it seems like you're about to make a bad decision.  A crappy job is better than no job!   Also keep in mind that there are allot worse jobs out there!  Every job has some amount of BS to it...

keep in mind no mater the job if you keep bitching about the BS aspects the job becomes very unpleasant in your kind.  If you constantly bitch about the job your mentally psyching yourself out, making the job unbearable.  No matter the job I refuse to socialize with people like you no offense but I don't wants dark cloud hanging over my head because I just listened to complain about who  ad the job is before I even started my day.

Just.

The way I see it, management has NO reason to bitch when shrink costs skyrocket. And it's not just perishables. Bread gets smooshed, chips pop open do to stuff being tossed on them, etc. It's not your fault they can't get done. Does management even know Shrink=Lost Sales, less hours? Pretty sad if a customer can't/won't bag their own groceries if it's a small order.

That is a lot of go-backs though. At our store the night check person (sometimes me) has to put everything back, on top of cleaning up the destroyed front end and helping the people who decide to get a crap ton of groceries at 3 in the morning and wonder why there's no lanes open.

We had about that many one night and I usually dont take my breaks cause there's so much to do. I took both 15s and my lunch lol it was that bad
