Front End Management denied a break for one of our cashiers today

So our Front End staff likes to leave the clipboard just laying around at random.
Tonight I saw a note by someone's name on the cashier list of employees working that this girl had come in 20 minutes late.
The note basically said "20 minutes late, no break."

I don't recall how long she worked, but to me that is bullcrap.
Yes if you come in 20 minutes late you will probably need a good excuse.
I'm assuming she isn't in the union.
I am and while I think my $7 per paycheck goes nowhere for it, if they pulled that stunt with me, I'd find my steward and complain.

unacceptable. she still deserves a break if she is there for more than 2 hours.

The way my contract works is if you work less than 4 hours (3.75 if she was late) then a break isn't given. Most of the time purple just stay over a bit to get their break.

 I agree.

And "The way my contract works is if you work less than 4 hours (3.75 if she was late) then a break isn't given. Most of the time purple just stay over a bit to get their break. " from frillybob is how our contract is too.

ive seen people come in over a hour late and still expect to have their breaks and lunches on their original time (i.e suppose to come in at 6 am and break is suppose to be at 8 am)

uh no.

you're own fault that you're late. it's NOT your supervisors fault. even if you have car troubles or whatever, it's still not their fault.

Depends upon the circumstances. If like someone said she was working 4 hours and showed up 20 minutes late she wouldn't get a break, but if she was late and worked 4 hours shes entitled to that break.

i'm guessing the later person had a 4 hr shift and so wouldn't meet the criteria for a break.

i hoped this was more clear cut, i've had management deny breaks after i'd OK'd one meaning that person didn't get a break because they eventually ran out the clock.  i told her if she went to the union and tell them i was her witness. she did and nothing came of it.  i've been denied breaks, even five minutes to sit down, in a nine hour shift.

You people are funny, every post here about 'you'll go to the union' 'you should go to the union' Lime the union is the be and end all if you go to the union.  It's not the be all and end all just because you go to them.  First, you'd have to file a grievance and be found In the right.  you didn't get your 15 minute break? Was that malicious on the part of management?  What was the root that caused thus problem...  YOU were late.  You should let petty **** like this go and fly nude the radar.  Instead you think running to the union is the solution, know you're just bringing upper management and HR into the light that you were late.  Stir the pot and you might just find yourself unemployed for being late.

They did that to me one time When I was a courtesy. Too "busy" they said (NOT!) so half hour before my shift was done I took it upon myself and took my break under the pretense I was "emptying garbage" and when I came back I. "Shut the lid" on our dumpster to make it look authentic. Hey, I bust my ass. NOBODY is going to deny me my breaks ANYTIME.
