I had a 6 hour shift today (11-5). About 3, I went up to the CS desk to ask about my lunch. The CSM told me that I didn't get a lunch for a 6 hour shift. I was baffled because I could swear that you get a break and a lunch for a 6 hour shift. I know that I've gotten a lunch & a break for 6 hour shifts before.
Add up your hours for the week. We do not get paid for lunches.
That is how they do it at our store.
12-6 gets 1 break. Most people like this.
12-6:30 gets 1 break and a lunch. I like this.
You leave 30 minutes earlier if you skip your lunch. If you must have a lunch, get the permission of your store manager and stay the extra unpaid 30 minutes.
Officially: What shifts are or are not allowed a lunch/break, and in what quantities, varies by state and contract. What is specified, if it is specified at all, varies widely. There is no "this is how it's supposed to be"
Unofficially: Most stores deviate from how they're supposed to handle this. Many employees, even veterans, think they know the rules on this, but easily 90-95% would be surprised to read what state laws and their contract say.
Here they make a fuss if 6 hour shifts don't get to lunch. Got to save that half hour. Don't try to leave at 5.5 hours either! Come back for five minutes!
in local 400 this is posted in the back of our store
Some of the little rebels at my store would use that sign as an excuse to sandwich two paid breaks into one super-break.
haha, until quite recently "as close to the middle of the shift as possible" meant "first 3 hours in and then at the end of your shift" If totally sucked.

Would you like fries with th... I mean, your milk in a bag?
A break AND a lunch for only a six hour shift. In the Louisville Division you get one break if your shift is 6 hours or less. If your shift is over 6 hours you get two breaks. You are also suppose to get a lunch but most people choose to skip that unless they work a full 8 hour shift (8 hours + 1/2 hour for lunch). To avoid confusion, they will usually only schedule people to work a 4, 5, 6, or 8 1/2 hour shift.

That should be a question mark at the end of the first sentence. I fixed it.
