Requesting lower hours
Permalink

So I work night crew in grocery, and am usually scheduled for 12am-8:30am.  I might be getting a part time job a couple hours during the day doing some office work and I was maybe looking to get a little more sleep.  I'll need to keep up with client emails, so I especially can't do any 12 hour overtime days.  There's plenty of college kids here that work nightcrew part time, but I'm not in school.  I was hoping to change my avail to 12am-7am.  Would they screw me over if I requested it? Or would they honor my request?

It all depends on your co workers. the best thing you can do is restrict your availability but then you risk getting stuck with 5 hour shifts or no shifts at all.

Instead of trying to get them to schedule 6 or 7 hours just make yourself unavailable a few days a week, that would be easier.  Most managers won't work with a second job with the holidays coming up.

This.

BUT. Be warned. You may get less hours, but they'll still demand the same amount of work as if you did eight full hours. "Those three pallets that you get done in eight hours? Better do them in four and a half!" Now, whether your coworkers or management will actually do that, again, depends on how their attitudes are.
