next week is thanksgiving, does Kroger have any day off for that ? And if i dont want to work on the Thanksgiving week , do i have to not send my available on that week ? Or i have to talk to my scheduler ??i need help asap. Thank you. O
you're suppose to request off 2 weeks in advance, and it's based on seniority and when you put in your request. you will not get the entire week off even if you ask for it in the 2 week period.. maybe if you had a vacation and had a lot of seniority.
I'm guessing this person has never worked outside of an office environment before. Taking entire weeks off during holidays is literally impossible unless you have 30+ years with the company and happen to be in a unique spot that the store has adequate help to cover you.
If you wanted Thanksgiving off then you should request it a month in advance. (At least I would have). Also the whole week off? Unless you're in corporate, a full timer that put in said vacation during that time, it's HIGHLY unlikely you'll get the entire week off. EVEN full timers, with tons of seniority plus being good with management can and will run into a snag getting Thanksgiving or the whole week off unless they put it for it way in advance. EVEN THEN, it's iffy

I'm off all this week. I've been with Kroger 3 years. I'm also taking a personal day off the day after Thanksgiving. Our contract states that there will be NO days blacked out during the holidays.
I would have made more money if I would have worked this week. I'm only getting 27.50 hours vacation. It's worth it not to have to be there. I haven't been in that store since last Saturday at 5:00 pm lol! I've been to the new Sprouts and Walmart though. Sprouts is awesome, might fill out an application.

Consider yourself lucky then. :P Also, we have a new sprouts opening up next March fairly close to here. It will be the first grocery competition since we bought out the other competition several years back. I'm a wee bit curious about what they have to offer as well.

I saw something posted next to our break room saying that ANY off requests for the week before and the week of Thanksgiving will be auto-denied. So yeah.
I'm not expecting it off since I'm 9th on the seniority list in my department (out of 12, and even the bottom 3 gets better ****ing shifts than I do) so I just gotta hope that by the time I leave, the food is at least lukewarm when I get home. ;;

Food? All I get is a register by the front door so I can freeze all day long.
No I mean my food that my in-laws are cooking. They tend to finish cooking early, so by 5pm the food is lukewarm at best. And it's never the same again after the chill has gone on it.

Even though I asked to work 4 hours in Thanksgiving and it got approved, (6-10 am shift) my family don't start cooking until 12 pm or so, but I am Not saying any different. As far as they know, we start everything earlier. Every family is different IMO, lol
Like others have said...these days are blacked out in retail so everyone doesn't request days off. I was scheduled most of the Wednesday before Thanksgiving even though I had school. This was at another retailer two years ago when I was a cashier, but it's the same everywhere. I now work in a pharmacy at Kroger on the weekends, so I get to avoid the retail insanity altogether. I worked as a cashier for years and thank God I don't anymore every time I step into a store during the holidays. Good luck everyone.
