After 18 years? You must have really messed up big time...

Contact your union.

What state are you in?

You have got to be kidding that you don't know why you got fired.

After 18 years, you know to never ever sign a write-up or termination notice?  File a grievance with the union and ask them to find out why you were fired.

It could be rule # 7 from your department or rule # 7 that your store manager made up.

What department did you work in and did you do anything wrong within the last 2 weeks?  Have you been given a verbal warning about anything lately?

Yea, I don't believe that anyone can work for a company for 18 years and not know why they'd fire you?

That's bs.  In my employee handbook there isn't a numbered list of rules.  So what did they say rule #7 is?

You need to look up rule 7 in the handbook they have you when you got hired. Or as your fellow co workers to see their handbook. Obviously rule 7 must be BIG for you to get term'd for it

I was fired from a bank after 15 years. I was never given a specific reason for being fired. It's just a companys way of replacing a higher wage employee with benefits with a minimum wage employee. More cost effective for the company.

Usually isn't someone supposed to get a reason as to WHY they were fired? I'd think someone with nearly two decades in should at least deserve more than a ****ing bull**** reason.

There can be exceptions, but generally, you're right. Some states allow employees to be fired without cause (employment-at-will states) while some do not. However, the union protects us significantly from that possibility.

 Are you ****ting me?

Rule #7 is "Read Rule #6".
Kroger is bad with numbers, remember?
