grievence and management

A department head in my store filed a grievence because there is no lead for the diary at this time. The lead person left and as far as i know no one has been put in that position. Can this put a strain on a dept head and the store management??

Why are they not filling the dairy lead position? Who is actually running the department? Someone needs to order, especially for the holidays.

Last year our lead was on medical leave through the holidays, and the store manager kind of ordered for it to assist, but it was still a mess.(Ran out of butter and eggs)

From what i know i think another employee in grocery (possibly lead guy for grocery??) is doing the ordering. I have yet to hear or find out who "actually" is running diary. Seems like it in a state of hell/chaos for the time being.

Sounds a lot like when the old dairy head retired at my store. It was a pain in the ass until we actually got someone in there to get it back in shape.

It sounds to me like they're having the grocery manager doing the ordering when they have a back up? He should be getting the pay for running the dairy. It would be like my market manager going on leave and having the store manager write the orders while I do all the work, yet not receiving relief pay for the leave of absence.

Grocery manager already makes a large premium over lead dairy ($3.00/hr).  Nothing to "relieve".   Since grocery is an umbrella department, grocery manager is supposed to be the one who does it when things like this happen.   However, since there is no time, and they don't actually work the department, making out good orders will be near impossible.

Exactly what I was thinking. A grocery manager on a $45K salary should be able to order for dairy a few weeks until they get a lead. He shouldn't be getting $22 an hour for sitting on his ass.
