The year long wait at customer service
Permalink

Krogers is so concerned about quevision, how about a problem they've been having for years, the customer service line? There are four cash registers up there but generally there's only one person ever working at a time. Maybe on a good day two. If someone in front of you starts a western union order or something be prepared to say goodbye to a good half hour or more of your time. And I always feel so sorry for the employee working back there because people get so cranky with them. I work in the deli and we get screamed at if a customer complains about waiting for 1 minute (literally this has happened), how is it acceptable to only have one person working back there at a time??

I'm not blaming the front end people of course. Just Kroger management.

Maybe because at customer service there's a higher chance that Kroger will be losing money (refunds, exchanges).

You can earn ELMS for another person but to do that you have to have another person come back and help out and it needed to be fifteen minutes or more.  The trick is finding somebody to come help out. The floor person really shouldn't leave the floor but sometimes the lines are epic.

ELMS for a Western Union is something like three minutes and nineteen seconds, give or take. this time of year it's not that odd for people to be doing more than one and a payout takes longer than a send because you need to tell the system to let you input ID info, slowing you down.

refunds and exchanges are meaningless in terms of the bottom line & my management has told us to just do them and move on.  the money services stuff from lotto to check cashing make money.  this time of year we also get hit with huge numbers of gift card sales.  that can take forever too.  the returns are much larger, also taking up time.

Omg yes, I'm always the one up there by myself. First of the month is horrible. People use every service at once, cash check, get money orders, send a western Union, send a fax, pay 10 bills. Sometimes it takeS 20 minutes for one person. One time a manager said "hey we don't ask them to come"

I refuse to look past the person I am currently dealing with otherwise I'd feel like puking.

The other day I was doing someone's western union and the lady behind him was like "is anyone working back here?" and I almost snapped back that I was. I mean wtf lady, take a chill pill.

They used to have a midshift person, but that person would get poached to run a register or, even worse, their hours would straight up go to register. They started it again this summer after I kept getting OT every damn week. I never had relief help, how could I take a lunch? Some days didn't even come with a break.

And my store has 2 registers back there but only one WU terminal. And the cell phones are kept near self-checkout so when someone wants one, I have to leave the area and go past the long line of people. yay

Always get the breaks you deserve. If some ass hat CSM tries to make you skip your 15, just take it at the end of the shift because you are entitled to it.

I AM going nuts. It's pretty much all they let me do, eight hours a shift.

A store manager decided I was good at keeping the line down and I've been stuck back there ever since.  I'm never given anything else.  It's soul sucking.  I ask for a change & get told, "No! I need you back there! You're so good at it."

Some days I want to stab myself with glee.

oh yeah now the days when I'm the only one in the store than run it, I will be like oh mr manager, can I shut down CS at 7 for my break? And they do it, ha, even though it makes customers mad

but gdi take it up with the managers who won't crosstrain people

this summer was bad though - on the 3rd of July, I didn't get anything because we were so slammed and there was no one to give me one and I had to do coin trays that day among everything else.

and to the last person - I love customer service, I love all the little bits of it, even the irrational customers are less annoying over there because I'm behind a high counter. the best.

oh wow that made no sense - the days when I'm the only one in the store than can run customer service, I now demand a break no matter how inconvenient it is

I always feel bad for the people stuck working at the CS/Money Services counter. That must be awful.

That being said, I do get a tad impatient when I'm waiting to buy a pack of cigarettes, and there's some a-hole trying to finagle some convoluted WU transaction that after 2 minutes of BS, I'm convinced they are funneling money to some South American banana republic revolutionary cell.

TF here at my Kroger the cigarettes are attached to one of our registers in Front End.
So if you want cigarettes, you CAN ask at Customer Service, but it is a lot easier to just go through one of the regular lines and request whatever brand or pack you want.

Your store does this too? Geez, we have two registers up there but both of them are hardly ever used simultaneously. I always get stuck up there alone because the FES's are still under the influence that no more than one office clerk should be up there, EVER. Even if the clerk up there is about to have a severe anxiety breakdown... If it's getting to the point where my line of customers is super long, I just stop answering the phone. If customers ask why there's two registers but only one person running the office, I tell them the truth: they never give me a second person because they think their "scores" are more important.

Seriously, will there ever be a time that Kroger does NOT think about QueVision for just FIVE MINUTES?

lol, maybe they should attach quevision to customer service!

and I have snapped at people before - I was doing a simple WU, this guy was a repeat customer, and it was pretty quick since we both know what we're doing. This lady behind him goes "is anyone working back here?" I was on the computer right there, so I went "I'm working back here!" jfc lady take a chill pill

and i usually answer the phone because good god that ringing is annoying and it comes from both of them. and then it's someone wanting grocery and they won't answer so it pings back and then people want the manager on person or on the phone or both

but you don't have to go to CS for anything but money services and rug doctor rentals. Cigs are at one register and you can request them at all the others (even uscan)
