So question: how many days in a row can someone be scheduled to work between days off?
This week, I'm working 5 days (which is okay, even if they're all short shifts), but I've heard of someone getting scheduled for 9 straight days...kinda hard to schedule anything with something like that.

The count goes by the workweek. The part timers can be scheduled short shifts 6 days in a week. So, basically, they have to give them 1 day a week off per our contract.
I have worked 20 days in a row without a day off. It was my choice because I volunteered for the extra shifts.
under my contract full time can be scheduled ten days straight because it crosses weeks if the days off start one week and don't come until the end of the next. been there, done that so i had this discussion with my union rep one day. said it was ok under "needs of the business." sorry, union, that's just bull****. i'm in no way that essential or the store would stop if i took a vacation.
i don't know if the contract has a limit for part time. if you pick up shifts and don't cross into over time or attain full time status, they might let you work continuously for weeks until you dropped.
There's nothing in our contract that stipulates a maximum continuous schedule.
I'm currently working 22 in a row, on day 20 today! But that's because somebody quit in my department and there's been nobody to fill in until I get somebody else. I'm sure if I pushed it I could have taken a day off, but I'd rather keep my department in good shape.
My impression was that you couldn't work more than 5 days in a row, unless you get special arrangements or seniority or something like that. At least that's what it seems like in my store. We probably have enough people in our department so that we can all get at least 1, if not 2, days off in a week though. There is a cashier in my store who is full time and works 6 days a week every week, but they have a ton of seniority so I don't know if that has anything to do with it.

The old timers hired before 1982 in my store are guaranteed 48 hours a week if they want it.
No store is supposed to use overtime except for the agreement for people hired before 1982.
Part timers can be scheduled 6 days for under 40 hours. Full time are guaranteed 40 hours in 5 days so a sixth day would be overtime.
Well actually people are getting screwed because they get Sunday and Monday off for week 1 and then Friday Saturday for week 2. So they are working 10 straight days with no sixth day overtime.
