He wanted some Skoal so I went to get it. When I got back to my register he asked if I was going to ID him. I said yes, I was just looking at your eyes, checking for crows feet lol! I harassed him a little over his picture.
depends on the situation. If he had been underage you tell him that you're sorry and couldn't sell to a minor. If he pointed his gun at you you give it to him and then call the OTHER police. Standard protocol applies to cops too. :P

Yes, as a cashier, if a customer cannot provide appropriate ID and you think they look young enough, that's your right to refuse the sale. You are responsible for everything that goes out the door.
Also, this may be a district- or zone-specific policy or something, but at my store you're solely responsible for the sale of anything age-restricted to a minor, meaning you pay the entire fine, court charges, etc. Kroger doesn't pay any of that for you.
He was joking. He knows you have to. One time an 80 year old asked me if I was gonna check his ID. I told him, I'd check the ID of the very first human in history. We both had a good laugh
lets think about this .its great you id people .but a cop for chew hmmmmm i dont think we we have alot of 17year old cops running around so you are safe.

But some states require id for anyone appearing below a certain age (27 here) and a cop could easily look that young. Best to always follow the law and store policy just like OP did.
