My store is cutting hours for everybody on the front end starting next week. Not sure of the other departments though. Me & two other daytime baggers (the rest are high schoolers) are going from 40 hours to 20 or less. We recently got two new daytime baggers, but they have only both worked two days this week.

that's still more than what I am getting next week.
And more than several of my co-workers.
I can't figure out if this is my FEM trying to screw with me and make me quit as I have claimed over and over again or just eSked being a total bit=ch.
It is happening at our store too. The store managers and department managers are under pressure to cut hours. Right now is the slow time but summer will be here again soon.
I think the goal is to get all part timers under 26 hours a week in Mi. If under that a week, per the contract, Kroger does not have to offer insurance. And, it will make pay raises take longer to get because part timers have to log in so many hours to get to each payraise.
My suggestion to part timers: If you can outlast everyone else with low hours, eventually people will quit and someone else will get the hours. Answer your phone when called in on days off, etc.
As for FrontEndSlave, I am really sorry to hear that your hours are so low. Sign bids, any bids, if you want to stay with Kroger. There are several people here that can get you familiar with other departments and pass an interview. Unfortunately, I suspect most bids are filled by senority and favoritism. We have many stores close to us here in Mi. Not sure if you have other stores to bid into. If that doesn't pan out, have confidence in yourself and start searching for another job with better pay and hours. Find something that will use your degree. I do not believe in karma. But, I know what comes around, goes around. I would hope that it isn't a personal agenda against you. That is poor management.
I am curious, what state are you in and what is wrong with your car?

One of my co-workers doesn't even have 12 hours. In fact, he has something like 10.5. Thought they couldn't go lower than 12, but I was wrong. I'm not sure how he's sticking around since it's rare that he gets more than 12 a week. Luckily he's young and don't have a family to support. But the guy's got some resilience.
My thing is if they staffed enough hours regardless, then no one should need to be called in. I've been called in multiple times because they didn't have enough bodies staffed for a day to begin with. Yeah, extra hours, but you would think that they would be able to schedule enough people so that they're not short staffed in the first place. When I get my schedule on Thursday/Friday, we usually plan out what needs to be done and when it needs to be done. By getting called in because of being "short staffed" it potentially ruins what plans someone has. You could say no, but then you miss out (and if it's a late shift, it's worse since half of my department refuses to do nights). So it's a double-edged sword.
My schedule is so erratic that even getting a second job without dropping Kroger entirely would be hard. In my department, I would go from 29 hours to 14 the next week.
I only have 29 hours next week. While I did request a day off to go my sons wrestling match, they gave me 3 days off. As short handed as we are they could've given me 5 days. Been there 10 years and they show what they think of me. It's not like I pulled this request on them last minute. I put it in over a month ago.
