So... either someone in the bakery goof'd with ordering, or CAO is just a pain in the rear.

The local Kroger just got MORE pies. Not just any pies. More PUMPKIN and PECAN pies. All varieties, from the 6" all the way to the 10"-12". Right now, they've got them marked down to a dollar EACH. That's right. 12" pecan pie that doesn't expire until March/April is currently going for only a dollar.

Remember, they got more pies. No, they didn't "find" them at the back of the freezer, they actually loaded them off of the truck.

Funny thing is, not that many are buying them. Probably because it's no longer the holidays? But yeah, the way it is right now, they've got a display of the $1 pies next to the marked down Valentine's stuff, next to the new Easter display.

I'm amazed that this company's still turning a profit.

We still have about 15 to 20 cases of pumpkin pies leftover from the holidays.  Hopefully we won't get anymore.  We keep getting peppermint chocolate chip cookies in.  They're very good, by the way, if they're not overbaked.  Even then, they're still good.  They also sent us 3 cases of take and bake cranberry walnut bread.  Someone apparently had higher sales expectations from all the stores and overfilled the warehouses.  The worst thing is they sent us 5 buckets of peppermint icing that completely went to waste.

Worse case scenario? You could always donate them to your local food bank depending on your store's policy concerning donations. Better than wasting space with product sitting in the shelves. Our you could sell them for .25 as an ultimate last resort.

See, I've always thought that that's what they're supposed to. They had posters in the back room about donating stuff to food banks and stuff, but never seen it in practice.

In my one year of Kroger I have NEVER seen any of our rejects/markdowns/damaged products get donated. They all went to our trash compactor. I would know, since I had to dump them quite a number of times. Actually, there would be times when the item wouldn't even be marked down at all.

In my first month, we had what basically was a fire sale on a ton of nutrition stuff. Everything that needed to be gone was mark down to like a dollar, more or less. We had three baskets full by the time we had to bin them out. Yup, they went straight to the compactor.

I also saw signs about "donating" but anything damaged or past date was thrown away!

We always donate our markdowns that don't sell. There's a food bank in town who is always very happy to get our stuff. :)

I can't believe you guys don't do it. :O

I would have no problems giving away dry goods to food banks. As for perishable stuff, it'd be great if they'd feed them to people after hours.

But nope, as far as I know and were aware of, we've never donated any goods outside of the hunger bags.

All our out of date stuff gets donated too.   We have two different groups that come in on different days to pick it up.  I don't know why every Kroger doesn't do it since they can claim it as a donation on their tax return.

Typical.

They did that to is once. Product we had no room for, did not sell well, etc. We tried to send it back but it came right back to us. Basically they told us in a nice way, "this is YOUR problem now. DEAL WITH IT." So what we did, we reduced it to an ultra low price, and donated the rest.

that's actually a damn good deal, especially for an employee like me who ends up having to spend an average minimum of 1/3 of my paycheck as soon as I get it on groceries.
recently i've been trying to use spare change to buy the arnold palmer aluminum cans of tea for $0.77 so I can keep what very little is in my debit account.
As of now I have $2 until Thursday's pay-day. I got lucky and had a customer tip me a $5 and another a $1. So I can use that.
My break consists of an $0.88 Kroger-brand french bread pizza (usually pepperoni) and a $0.77 can of the green tea with honey or arnold palmer tea.

Pies for $1 each, wow, that's one of few things I could get behind on this store. The expiration date be damned. They'd be eaten as long as they didn't give me or my loved ones food poisoning.

I'm right with you, bro. I, currently, have $10 in my account. I normally will buy a Monster and Doritos, candy bar, or fruit. Bananas are only .25 each; Grapes are ~.01 per(have to buy at least 5 for the weight to count)! :D
