ive only been working for Kroger since end of December. We got a huge snowstorm yesterday. We have about 9 inches of snow. Gov declared state of emergency yesterday. Nobody has been going in or out unless 4 wheel drive. I don't have 4 wheel drive. I had to call in yesterday and today. There's no way I can get out. Supervisor said he'd see what he could do. Can they fire me? I hope not. I love my job.
Not unless you're on probation. Even then it's a big snow storm. I had to call in, as well. The roads are so covered you can't see them. It's dangerous; Very dangerous. Stay home and don't worry. How some people can get there is beyond me.

I've been with the company for almost a year now as night stock. Last night the store was closed so I got a snow day, but looking outside I can tell I'm not going to be able to make it unless a plow miraculously gets lost and comes down my street. I'm worried about calling in too because one of the associate managers told me that there is such a thing as "too many absences". Every absence I've ever had has come with a doctor's note. The last time I missed work was also weather related thanks to icy conditions earlier this winter, and that's when I was told and badgered to come in.
I don't get paid enough to risk it, but I don't want to lose my job either. I've been write-up and disciplinary action free during my stint with Kroger, only ever late once. Never a no call no show. I'm not well versed with the union so I don't know if there's something that pertains to this or not. Would either of you have a clue on this?
Normally, excessive absences don't kick in unless you've been out for 3 days (or more) in a row, without a good excuse/ doctor's note. Like i said, don't worry too much about it.

That's heartening to hear. There was only one time like that and it was injury related, so there was definitely a couple of notes involved. Everyone in the recently snow smashed areas be safe! I haven't seen this much snow since I was out west.
I live less than a quarter mile from the main road, which is passable, but I called in. My street hasn't been plowed yet and while I have a FWD with traction control I'm not risking my neck so some idiot can get their milk sandwich. Besides if they scrape my street too much it'll make it worse since it's nothing but a inch or more of ice underneath the snow.

Here where I live the main road isn't even plowed! I walked to the main road, saw it was COVERED in snow, said "Nope.", walked back and called in. Bad is an understatement.

My co management is a dick I don't call in often when I called in I got told I knew you would cause you always do, been with kroger 4ever, but it just depends who you know/screw at my store.....

We had sleet and ice the other night and naturally we had several call-ins. The co-manager on duty, Kirk Anderson, got mad because no one would come in and no one would stay. He got mad at one guy because he wouldn't stay an extra four hours after already working 12. He couldn't understand why people weren't able to make it in. He made it in. He said, "All you have to do is just drive." Did I mention that he lives right down the street from the store? Getting to work for him is no problem. Other people have to drive a greater distance. Also, you would think that he would appreciate those people who did manage to get to work, but no. He's proof that Kroger doesn't care one bit about its employees.

Said they made it in and he loves the way people call and say they are coming to work. I can't get out. Its too risky. I don't have a 4wd. Said for me to call back at 10 when my shift starts and talk to other supervisor. Said roads would clear up. I live on a side street and they don't get to these that quick. How would I know if I was on probation at work?

Since it's probably been 60 days, you're most likely out of probation. Some have 90 days, but most appear to be 60 or less.
