So I am working on filing through Turbo Tax...nearly $600 through State and Federal combination.
My question is, does the figure that Kroger provides (and Turbo Tax miraculously picks up automatically after I provide my information...) include the $7 union fees per check since I joined?
The standard deduction would be much higher than if you tried itemizing deductions. You need a lot of write-offs(like medical bills and mortgage interest) to make it worth doing.
I am not a tax expert but I have never tried writing off medical expenses or union dues in the last 20 years. The standard deduction has always been higher for me.
Your state may do things differently so I can not answer with confidence.
My advice is to see a CPA on getting your tax return to get a maximum refund. Im going through an independent one because i found out jackson hewitt screwed me out of $285 so im having to have my previous tax return amended. At least I'll get some extra money back.

I ended up going through Turbo Tax...I am getting around $850 federal and $150 state back.
I bought $97 worth of TT product, basically audit insurance, filing for state and federal together, among other things....
BUT I will (or should) end up getting around $1,000 in my debit account in a few weeks, if not sooner.
That will go a long way to getting back on the road, and once that happens, away from the damn Kroger!
