And for the walmart employees that had to work their way up to $9 an hour, sorry no pay raise for you. Now all new hires will make as much as you. Sorry, you can't please everyone.
I remember reading an article about this a month or two ago that said they wouldn't be paying people who were supervisors as much due to this. Not surprising, but it will backfire on them when people won't take those jobs or just do it extra crappy. However ya don't go to wally for a nice shopping experience. Gonna be tougher to get new hires in the door at kroger and its bad now.
Walmart has a less than stellar record when it comes to the treatment of its employees and has been guilty of some unfair and shady practices towards its workforce, but this is one positive step forward toward making amends with the people that work for the company. The people working for Walmart endure a lot with as many customers that come through everyday and deserve to be better compensated for their time. Hopefully, Walmart will continue to take additional (necessary) steps toward mending the fence with its employees, so that one day, Walmart becomes a great company to work for.
Kroger loves to imitate Walmart in order to try and surpass it, but will Kroger imitate this decision? Of course not. Kroger loves to make itself out as being "better" than Walmart. How will the executives and empty suits at Kroger go about spinning this in order to still make Walmart out to be the bad guy? Walmart already paid more per hour than Kroger before this, and now? The gap just widened. Walmart believes it's in the interests of the company's future to pay employees better... so it would seem Walmart places more value on its employees than Kroger does. Kroger believes its enough to say "Our People Are Great!" and that lip service alone is all that is needed.
You know how Kroger will view this? The company won't come at it from the perspective, "hey, Walmart is paying its people more. We should too," instead it will be, "great! Walmart is paying its people more. That means customers will see a price hike in Walmart stores and come shop at Kroger instead! We don't have to raise our prices because we aren't giving our employees a raise! Now we really will be able to match and beat Walmart's prices!" Just more of Kroger's "sound business practice" of passing on great savings to customers by keeping employee wages as low as possible... continue to build the company on the backs of employees, never mind the fact that practice is breaking employees' backs... and spirits.
Why do I get the feeling I'm going to be hearing that obnoxious "Now Hiring!" advertisement even more often on store speakers?

I noticed the artice only talks about starting pay. It makes no mention of what the maximum pay is. They might start you out at $10.00 an hour ($13.00 if you're a manager) and then not give you a raise for five years, if one at all.
Sent this link to our union reps and the HR guy. See what kind of B.S. reply, I get. There is no way to sugarcoat paying an outstanding 12 year employee $9.90 per hour. Especially a company that it is raking it in like Kroger.
Well in 2012 I was making $10.80 an hour but I had to take some time off and then transfer stores due to an illness, transferred to a store that was under a "country contract" which meant my part time top out pay went down to $9.75. SO I'm making less now than I was 6 years ago.
I'm glad I have the union looking out for my rights. What a ****ing joke.

"But our benefits are GREAT!" exclaimed Tony the Tig . . . I mean, our store manager as he trolled the building looking for people to pressure to go faster.
your sorry ass unions are to busy trying to get fast food workers $15 a hour. I always find the interviews funny on tv with the UFCW wanting $15 dollars a hour for fast food workers when they can't even get a decent grocery contract
Please tell me how you are makin 12.05 as a part timer.
Probably in a division that is located in an area with high cost of living. In the atlanta division, top for full time is 12.12( as well lead. Dept manager top at 14, and Grocery tops at ridiculous 16). It took me 7 years to get 12/hr. Part time for us tops at 9 bucks. 12/hr for Part time is not a lot of money. For that wage to be worthwhile, you need full time. So yeah Kroger still pays low regardless of area.
Worked at Kroger for two and a half years and Im at 19.15/hr. I dont know what yall are doing wrong but switching companies probably isnt going to fix it. Stop looking for handouts and put your nose to the grind stone, maybe after you do that some one will notice your worth and pay you for it. Until then quit bitching about your pay and start your own business if you think its so easy

I've been on the grind since 2014 at $7.25. I topped out in 2018 at $18.18. I'm just happy to have built up seniority throughout the process, as well as getting the raise.
