I knew it wouldn't go well, it usually doesn't. They had a new FES that pulled me out of my line to his. I told him no, I was just getting cigs but you know how they are. So off he goes to the cig corral after asking me twice what kind of cigs I wanted. Never smiled, asked how I was etc. Came back and asked me what my DOB was. Didn't ask for my ID so what's the point in that? I laughed and said "what, I don't look over 40?" He never said a word, just stood there. My total was $25.00 for 3 packs of cigs. I told him that wasn't right and then he started arguing with me. I had to figure out what he did wrong, tell him what to do, etc. The whole dang time he just argued with me. He wrang up 4 packs instead of 3. Honest mistake I guess since I had to tell him TWICE what I wanted. He had on a nametag that said Robert and my receipt says Daniel.
You must be one of those types of customers that retail workers try to avoid whenever they see you in the store. "I'm not going to wait on her. You do it."
At my store we have to ask everyone for their DOB. You could be 110 and look like you're about to take your last breath and we'd have to ask you for your DOB. Employee or not, we're still asking. What I hate the most is customers that make stupid comments like that "seriously? don't I look old enough to buy beer/cigs?" And I'm just like (in my mind) "you old sh-- just gimme your damn birthday and STHU." Or those ladies that started hollering and cheering, "hey, I just got carded! Ha!" Umm, no, you didn't. I just have to ask everyone for their birthday, lady. Sometimes we'd expect fellow coworkers to know/act better than customers, but they can end up being worse.

If you have to ask and don't look at their ID it's just a waste of time IMO. We always just clear the prompt if they appear over 40. We only ID if they look under 40. That's our stores policy. If they were a regular customer that I had ID'd in the past I would never keep asking them each time they came in. I will just tell them 5/5/55 from now on.
I used to have a lady that came in to gets cigs. Each time she would hand me a card that someone had written "Marlboro Special Blend Gold 100's" on it. She would always show me that card when she wanted cigs. I guess I could make one for that dumb FES.

Nah, they love me. The FES is just new to his job, young, stupid, not properly trained. You know, a Kroger new hire. It's more of a "I'm avoiding him" type situation. The store manager and comanager always stop to talk with me as do the employees. There were a couple of bad employees but that's taken care of.
