Isn't it annoying when you go in to shop on your day off and your supervisor comes over and starts complaining about something? It's bad enough having to listen to it while you're working, but I don't know why you should have to put up with it while you're not being paid to paid to put up with it. Or how about when they start telling you "when you come in next time __ and ___ needs to be done." Gee, just what I wanted to hear.
I try not to go near where I work on my days off to avoid this, but I work in the deli and sometimes I need bread and we share the supervisor with the bakery. At this point I'm considering going to Giant Eagle for when I need something from the bakery. Is that what you wanted, Kroger, to drive off a customer?
If you must come in, wear earphones and "listen" to music or "talk" to a friend on your phone saying 'I DO NOT have time to listen to complaining crap about work, ima trying to have a good day off.' I've done this multiple times, I've gotten glares from co-workers and management because they had to 'complain' to me about something (usually stupid **** they can handle themselves). A bit much, I know, but it works for me.
That's against company policy. There is a whole page in my employee handbook explaining it. At least it is in the SW Division. The employee handbook states : No department head or other hourly associate should be or is allowed to work while not on the clock. Making out orders, straightening the rack, GIVING INSTRUCTIONS, etc. are violations of this policy.
It also states : The store manager will be held responsible for violations of this policy when they are found. Strong disciplinary action will be taken against those violating this policy up to and including discharge.
On the other hand, if I call my dept. head asking something, is it against policy for her to answer the question since she isn't on the clock?
But yes, they should not harass you like that when you aren't at work.
I would question why you are calling your dept. head when they are off they clock.
Unless they are salaried.
I would question if you work for Kroger, anon. Sometimes you have to ask the dept head questions on the phone, like, "Why are our cookies marked down to $0.29?"

My department head would have a fit if someone called her at home regarding a work related question. If something comes up, we either have to handle it ourselves or simply leave it until she comes back.
