UFCW 227 Ratifies New Four Year Agreement

Louisville workers rejoice! Still holding on to spousal coverage, more insurance options for PT, no pension cuts, raises across the board. Good Raises across the board the entire length of contract and no big contract language changes. This on top of that $1 per-hour worked "make it right" bonus makes Louisville Kroger workers some of the best paid in the nation. It's good to see that in at least some parts of the nation Kroger isn't trying to scale back benefits and pay.

And Louisville isn't very expensive to live in either, so that sounds like an amazing place to be a Kroger employee.

Our top rate for part-timers will avg $12.50 to $13.50 per hour, FT should be $15-$17 something. Department heads got a big win and their top rate will be $23 something excluding bonuses.

$23/hr? That's better than what some co-managers make.

head meat cutter under the 2012-15 agreement was already $20, $21 an hour with the make it right bonus, and that bonus goes up another .50 next year. Yeah the pay down here is ridiculous. Our steward told us we should be happy for the pay and benefits we get down here because most other divisions get half of what we do. Most of the FT'ers here already have their 3 personal days, 6 vacation weeks, their time and a half sunday pay, the 5 standard paid holidays. I'm from Northern Illinois and we had a local subsidiary of Albertsons called Jewel-Osco. Their union right now tops them off at just under $10 when the min wage up there is $8.25 and they get less holidays and less vacations and higher dues.

I guess the only hope for the local 700 is when we vote on next contract. We lost spousal coverage here. I hope the union and the bargaining committee fight for us like hell next time around.

Go for it they have department head postings all the time and the positions that arent posted will be open in less than two years when everyone retires. Pretty soon they will hire people in as full time and department heads its so bad. The dairy dept. in our store has 4 full timers and 1 part timer: The part timer is about to find a different job, one ft is retiring, two are transferring, that leaves one running one of the largest dairy departments in the division. If you want hours and money Louisville division is the place to be.

I'm hoping this gives our union leverage on the contract they are negotiating right now.

Top pay for full-timers right now is $14.20.  A $1.05 raise over the next 4 years will only bring it up to $15.25.  Where did you get the $17?

It depends on when you were hired.  Full time people who made full time before 12/11/83 or were hired before 11/19/77 and made full time after 9/26/87 currently make $16.32/hr.  Part time people hired between 1/13/78 and 5/31/80 make $13.17/hr.  I'm not sure what the pay rate is for people who fall somewhere in the middle.  Also, people who became full time before 9/27/87 only have to work two nights past 6:00 PM.  If they work more than two nights, any time after 6:00 PM is paid at time and a half.  Full time people who became full time between 9/27/87 and 12/16/90 get time and a half for hours worked past 6:00 if they work more than three nights.  With each contract, they don't take away something from people who already have it, but the new hires lose out.

On our last contract(the one that just expired), new hires no longer get overtime for working over 32 hours during a holiday week.  They still get holiday pay but it doesn't count towards their hours worked.  If I work over 32 hours during a holiday week, I get overtime for those hours because the holiday pay counts as 8 hours.  For the new hires, their holiday pay is just an extra bonus and the hours don't count.  They have to work over 40 hours in order to get overtime pay.  Although I can't confirm it, I also heard they cut the maximum vacation time down to 4 weeks for new people.  Currently the maximum is 6 weeks.  People who are currently employed will still get their 6 weeks vacation after 25 years service, but people who get hired now will only see a maximum of 4 weeks vacation.  Of course a lot can change in 25 years.

They seem to take away something with every contract.

The make it right bonus is as follows

Take your fresh and friendly scores combined.
Take your Id sales.

Those two figures gives you a bonus per hour for one quarter. Up to $1 for the 2015 kroger year. And if you hit a certain numeric it will go up to $1.5 an hour in the 2016 fiscal year
