Regarding pay scales; union or non union?

Hey guys,

So I see on many of these posts that a lot of you work in Kroger stores that are part of the union, with pay that is lower than minimum wage or just bad. Does anybody else work at a Smith's? I don't know if it's like this everywhere, but the pay scale at our store is awesome... Baggers start at $8.25, cashiers start at 9 something and work up to the same pay as Journeyman Grocery (Roughly $15.50). I don't mean to be nosy, but is it like this at your stores?

your minimum wagd must be higher. Our Baggers top out at 7.50 and pt under new contract is $13 or so an hour and $14 with that "make it right bonus. Ft is about $16 or $17 with the bonus. Department managers will make low to mid $20's under our new contract.

Union store here, and we have a decent pay scale if you are either full time or a pre-2009 employee.

No store pays less than minimum wage, that's illegal.  If an employee joins the union, or signs up for insurance, those deductions will be withheld from their weekly paycheck.  So yes, after deductions one might clear less than minimum wage, but that's the employee's choice.

 Not exactly a choice, though.

Okay guys, thanks for your answers. My store is non-union. Only the Meat Department in my store is union.

Yes, it's a choice.  You don't have to sign up for insurance.  You don't have to join the union.  So it's exactly the employee's choice.

In Ohio you do have to join the union.

It depends on if the state has Right-to-Work laws in place. Only half of the states have such laws in place. The other half is required to pay dues. Health Insurance is counted as non taxable on your Taxes and is required less you take a hit on your return.

So in essence... It isn't really a choice, for some of us.
