Power outage.

My store lost power at quarter to 6 today, Eastern time. There was a transformer that blew on the grid that connects to the store's power. I've never been there when the power went out so I really had no idea what to do. Luckily, I got off at 6 so I didn't really have to deal with it long. It was just weird.

I haven't been there with our power out yet--although we've had a few flickers when I have worked.
I have heard it is a difficult thing to do.

I believe it.
You should look up the thread i posted last year when our EBT went down.
I photographed all the carts at our Front End.
I believe the total wound up being around 17, most of them small carts.

For Kroger to get its crap together and have everyone on the same page, you'd need more than just a power outage. You'd need a fire.

We've had power outages at our store before and when I was there, it was very, very unpleasant. At least for the manager. Sometimes the power would go completely down and the registers would not even work. I could see the manager's face turn dark red by having to announce to all the customers around them that we cannot process any transactions due to the power outage and that he sincerely apologizes.

I'm sure all stores have some sort of backup generator, but that can take time to get rolling.

We had a power outtage during prime time earlier this year, the registers were all down, and the store manager actually gave away 14 baskets of groceries for those in line at the time. I know that hurt lol.

A few years ago e had a monster storm that knocked us out.....for THREE DAYS. What a cluster that was. Back up power was on, but all it juiced was the lights. We had to unload everything---the bunkers, the side counters, the freezers---and transfer them to these dry iced trucks we rented.

But my favorite part? Before all that, as the storm was still trashing everything outside and we had all the customers huddled in the back hall, we eventually got the all clear: you can leave now. Picture all these retards going back to their carts.......and continuing to shop. "Hey, I'm ready to check out now!!" Nothing but auxiliary lights on.....and the cash registers obviously dead. Yeah, THAT was fun.

Oh, and 10,000 carts of go backs.

We have a generator, but it wasn't working. They weren't letting anymore customers in when I left at 6.

I experienced one power outage during a big summer storm. It was around 8pm, and we closed the deli at 10. We got the generator working for an hour, but it went out and the backup to the backup wasn't coming in until 11pm.

Cleaning sharp objects in the dark is not an easy task by any means. Apparently though, we did a better job on the slicers in the dark than we do in light... :/

The only time I remember the power going out, the lights stayed on but the lightning struck something that caused our freezer cases to all go out.

They called everyone from all the departments (and even people from other stores) to go to the freezer aisles and unload as much as we could to put in the main freezer.

That was soooooooooo much fun.

We had a similar storm; a derecho in 2012. We lost thousands of dollars in merchandise.

Luckily, I wasn't at the store when it happened, so I didn't have to deal with the rush to pull the floor. Unfortunately, I was driving home from work when it hit.

It sux to have to restock it after everything is tossed in carts!  :(

My experience is:

First, we pray the power comes back on.

Next, we call a comanager at 3am(when the power goes out).

The comanager orders dry ice to be delivered asap for when the power is out for more than an hour.

Whoever is in the store has plastic for covering all open cabinets.  Each cabinet and freezer gets a block of dry ice.

The back-up generator only runs the lights and computer room.  I remember the registers were working but we were closed at the time.

All in one year when the power grid in the North east went offline, we lost all the perishable products 3 times.  Sucked for the store manager but was a good opportunity to fix BOHs....
