so I know this is going to sound ridiculous, but bear with me. I just started as a produce clerk a couple weeks ago. I really despise it. It's not for me. Would it be out of line for me to talk to my recruiting manager about getting a different position? If not, I will stick it out but I need some kind of a routine & that doesn't seem to exist in the produce dept at my store. I want something a little more cut & dry, black & white, etc; like a cashier position maybe. what do you all think? advice? thanks.
edited to add: I have experience as a checker, I already know what I would be getting into & that I enjoy it. there were no cashier positions open at the store I applied to.

You look like a great asset to your store, and with your skill/experience set I can't see you having a problem transferring............BTW, it's nice to see someone NOT asking the forum things like "Hey I only been here for nine hours----y'think they'd mind if I went on a two year leave????"
I heard once that about 60% of applications are for cashier positions and somewhere around 15% are for courtesy clerk. If you want to transfer I'd suggest moving to frozen foods or maybe dairy. Day grocery would be an okay option too, just know that you'll basically be doing whatever management asks you to do instead of a set routine. Yea you'll be doing PPTR for sure, but they might throw you on a register for the rest of the night or ask you to help another department. Frozen is as cut and dry as you can get. Only problem is that it is cold as hell. If you'd be okay stepping out of the black-and-white zone, you could also try nutrition or GM. Nutrition has 5 different load types (dry grocery, dairy, frozen, Peyton totes, and the Wednesday loads with shippers and odd stuff). GM is pretty varied too, but they also have furniture and the promotional aisle, which means there are a range of things you'll have to do. Produce sounds like a lot of heavy lifting though.

I would think that fruit is a little easier to carry around. Granted, I'm in deli, and chicken boxes are no less than 45 pounds apiece (closer to 50 pounds), so anything else might seem lighter.

That's all it weighs? In the meat department boxes of chickens are 60 to 70 pounds. Don't even get me started on the frozen turkeys during Thanksgiving...
