So.... I requested off May 9, 10, 11, and 12 due to graduation party and my child's baptism on the 9th, out of town 10-11th and wedding anniversary on the 12th. All were approved. My availability is 5p-10p everyday but wed and thurs. I was hired with this availability.
I was scheduled as of Friday (schedules go up at 4pm Friday) was Fri 4-10 and sat 1-9 (both outside my availability). I went and spoke to my supervisor, who told me to just work 5-10 both nights, and the rest of the work was off.
I received a call from a co-worker tonight that I was scheduled to work last night and tonight (sun and mon). I went online and checked, and sure enough, I was scheduled AND have a note that says time off approved. My co-worker told me I would get in trouble for no-call no-shows... but I was approved and they changed my schedule without my consent after it was posted.
I have been with the company for almost 8 months. Is this according to the policy on attendance? Can they schedule me on a day they already approved as time off, then discipline me for simply not knowing they put me on and did as such? Should I talk to my union rep?
I forgot to add... One of the managers called me on Friday before the schedule went up asking me to work, and I told him I couldn't, had requested and been approved for it off, and couldn't change my plans.
Then if you were approved the "changes in the schedule without your approval" means horse ****. In other words, if you were approved then you can NOT get in ANY trouble. Next time, just to be safe, take pics of your schedule in case they try and change it on you without your knowledge and approval once it's been finalized and you have your set days off.
Thanks so much. I took pictures of my availability page, the schedule page, the page showing approved, the schedule that doubles as "approved". Figured I'd rather have everything than be terminated and no way to access it (I'm guessing if they terminate, they block access immediately). That's a load off my mind. Thank you for getting back to me!
They will not be able to do anything since it was approved and they changed it without your consent. The worst that can be done is them giving you a write up, don't sign it, for the day and any union rep worth their salt would be able to have it thrown out.
I've had problems before where my schedule writer has placed me outside my availability and I simply explained the situation to my manager and told them that if I was unable to get out of my previous plan I would call a few hours before and let them know that I would be unable to do the shift. My availability was approved in e-schedule and I had already made plans for that time off.
All they could do was say "Okay."
Time moves on and people forget. :)

Even the write up would be null and void. If they try and write you up, get a union rep and have them present when you state your case. I don't know about your store manager, but our previous one had a vicious vegence streak before he got terminated. That's why it's best to have union representation.
