does anyone else find working in the fuel center to be so ****ty? the customers seem to be extremely rude and i hate being trapped in that box. it's such a ****show down there
Working in the fuel center is probably the worst job at Kroger, worse than being a morning bookkeeper. Why couldn't Kroger come up with an actual convenience store gas station instead of creating this tiny box for us to stand in and have to talk through a super-low quality mic and speaker? Oh, and the customers are *******s, they yell and scream at you if you ask them for ID for cigarettes. Sure, just yell at me and call me names because I won't sell you something that kills you. You shouldn't be driving around without your license anyway.
Some stores do have a convenience store. The Richmond, Indiana fuel center (Central division) has a convenience store in it where they even sell those yummy bakery cookie sandwiches that my store stopped making. So any time i get over that way, i pick one up. :)
It's funny because the main store there is an older one that hasn't been remodeled yet, I actually like their fuel center store more.

In my town there are four Kroger stores, only one built in the last 15 years, so it was planned in an open area with lots of space. When the gas station expansion happened, there was plenty of room to make that one a small convenience store-sized model. The other three inner city stores? The stations there could fit in your trunk.
For some reason I get why everyone says it's the worst job.. But I actually love being in the Fuel Center.
First: You're usually alone unless you're working a morning shift with someone else.
Second: You don't have coworkers that will complain and put the work on you because you're all alone to do the work yourself.
Third: Customers can't get in your face to scream at you because you're in a kiosk behind a thick plate of glass. So if you didn't want to hear it, all you'd have to do is turn the intercom off until they are done.
Fourth: The boss inside isn't watching over you like a hawk.
There is quite a lot you have to do during the day, but the only shift that is the most difficult is closing. When you're closing you have to do all the crap that they say you need to do in usually a half hour all the while taking care of customers. Just the other day I had a person hit one of pallets with the bags of water softener salt by the pump. (I'm not sure how you can't see it when it's right there) It was right before I had to clock out, so I was scrambling to move all the heavy bags to the back that were damaged and then sweep it all up. It's ridiculous the amount they think you can do within a half hour. I guess they think we're all super hero's.
