giving two weeks notice??

so i am looking for new jobs and i think i may have something in the works. i have only been at kroger a few months .. i don't really know how to go about notifying them of leaving my job, if i were to do so. do i talk to my dept head or manager? or both? and is a two weeks notice sufficient? i don't want to leave them in in a bind but there are plenty of people in my dept. i think they would be alright with out me haha

Just write out on a piece of paper or type out something that says something along the lines of, "Please accept this as formal resignation of my position in the company effective 2 weeks from today. Thank you for employment and the opportunities allowed to me." Whether it's genuine or not, it's common courtesy. Give that to one of your co-managers or store manager. Also, go directly to your department head to notify them so that they can prepare.

I would also add to DeltaGrocery's statement that you need to make sure you have a job where you're going. It really sucks for the people that give their two week notice only to have to tell their manager "Wait other other job didn't pan out! Please give me hours." One girl had to wait a week before she was back on the schedule.

Sometimes it means you're working two jobs as you transition over to a new job, but if you're schedule allows it, I would do things that way so that you KNOW you're going to have a job after leaving Kroger.

Best of luck to you! I hope wherever you're going is a great place to work!

This.  I did this partly because I wanted to make sure the other job panned out, and to give a little cushioning.  I knew that I was giving in my notice (it was gonna be 2, but **** happened and it became a 1 week notice), but it would suck if the other job falls through and you don't have Kroger as a backup.
