Meat department Question but anyone can answer

Yesterday I purchased 5 expensive ribeye that I planned tossing on the grill that night.  Well immediately after that an emergency came up so I had to leave the steaks in the car for a minute.  I left them in the car in 70-80 degree weather for about 50 minutes to an hour.

I was just wondering do you guys think it's still safe to eat. It doesnt really have an odor. And it isnt sticky. We froze it over night since we didnt get to eat it. 2 have a brown spot im guessing from being opened.

We plan on searing then oven cooking it until its well done.

Is it okay to feed my family or im just out of 50 bucks

There is nothing wrong with the meat. It wasnt out long enough and as long as you cook it to medium, youwill be fine. 165 degrees kills all.  Enjoy your steaks!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi there, I worked in the meat department for 1.5 years (yesterday was my last day at Kroger)

Personally, I wouldn't eat them. Sitting for an hour in the food temperature danger zone? Ugh. If we left the steaks we freshly cut, sitting outside of refrigeration for an hour, we would toss them.

While cooking it well-done WILL kill the bacteria, it won't destroy the toxic waste the bacteria produce.

When you finally got the steaks out of the car, were they still cool to the touch  or did they feel warm?  If they were still cool, they're more than likely to be okay.  If they were warm, then they still might be okay depending on how long they've been at that temperature.  Fifty minutes isn't all that long.  Now if you said they were left overnight, I would say to throw them out.  Also, if you had said it was chicken or ground beef, I would have said to throw it out since they're both more likely to cause food poisoning.

They were still cool to touch. If they were hot,  then I would have definitely threw them out. We gonna try them tonight.  Hopefully  no one gets food poisoning. *Keeping my fingers crossed.*

I've worked in several foodservice positions for nearly 40 years, (besides working at Kroger) and consider myself familiar with food safety guidelines. I can tell you that you have virtually nothing to worry about. Less than an hour in the car would not do any real harm, anyway, you froze them (which would have quickly dropped the temp to below 40 degrees) and you are going to cook them well done.

Most food safety 'experts'/guidelines/rules  say that no perishable food should be left in the "Danger zone" (between 41 degrees and 140 degrees -- when bacteria grows the fastest) for more than 2 hours (some say 4 hours) , if left out any longer than that, it should definitely be tossed.

PS.....to one of the ANONYMOUS's  that said you have gotten a stomach ache after eating opened packages of ham left our for an hour......was it sliced to order in the deli (the bulk package may have been opened a day or two earlier and it didn't have as much of  a shelf life as expected) or was it pre-packaged and sealed in shrink-wrap?.......  anyway........ham is rather an unhealthy food to begin with, and may cause stomach aches even when it has been kept perfectly cold!  Please consider cutting back on ham....

I've worked in the meat department for 10 years and i would eat them. If it was something along the lines or poultry i would toss it out, but it takes alot tor red meat to go bad. Ive once even ate bacon that sat in a car for 12 hours overnight and didnt get sick.

Should sear them both sides in on the grill at a high heat or inside with a little bit of olive oil.
