Fuel Lead Experiences/Info?

Some background:

I've been out in the fuel center for a few months. Not a long few months, but enough to no longer feel like I'm floundering everyday. The rest of the crew consists of a student, two older folks that are working this as their second job or just to supplement some income, me (the only full availability person), and the lead. Our lead is getting on in their years and is looking to retire soon, and has been looking for a replacement. News gets around the little box quick, and it turns out the current lead is looking to offer the position to me before they look outside of the "department".

I of course have no idea what it entails to be the lead except the things I've seen and what I've already been told by the current lead in what I'm sure was just a way to try and coax me into accepting right away. Which is a) making the schedule and b) getting to pick the shifts. Everything else would just be conference calls once a month inside, accepting deliveries, and picking up stock from inside when inventory's low.

So I figured I'd ask if anyone had any experience as lead, and could kinda brief me on all the dirty parts the current lead doesn't want to mention to me before I've signed the contract and sold my soul.

Pretty much I just want to know what I'd be getting into really if anyone has any thoughts/tips/warnings for me.

Since currently the unknown is what's keeping me from going one way or another on this. On the plus side full-time hours and benefits, but on the negative a responsibility I might not be ready for yet and the possibility of jumping on a sinking ship.

I'm not a fuel lead but I am the back up, so I can help you with a few things. You would be responisble for the whole station and the crew, 40 hours a week every week, minus time off from vacation and personals. You have to deal with going to meetings, dealing with corporate meaning answering questions of why things are done or why they look a certain way. You would be responsible for making orders out(like paper towels, paper etc) you have to get with the drug gm almost once a week to make sure your order are coming in, or to increase a order. You are responsible for having items in stock, and fresh products at all times. It's an easy job to have 90% of the time so yes I would take it. But before you do you should get answers to some of these questions. Being a fuel lead in the dark is not a fun situation, and more than likely you would be on your own learning things. So if possible work with your fuel lead before they quit or step down.
