On the YKB site's main page, I'm given a deductible meter for progress on what I still owe. When I first signed up for insurance, I didn't see anywhere to actually start paying this off. It being a new account, I figured I'd wait and see if something appeared. Well, I forgot all about it (I don't visit the doctor for anything and haven't in well over a decade; my health is great, only medicine I ever take is ibuprofen for occasional headaches - I basically have insurance because it's required by law), but it's been months and with the new screening deadline coming up, it popped back into my head to check up on it and see if I can pay off this year's deductible right now. Still nothing. No payment option on YKB, no payment option at Anthem. What am I missing? About $100 is being taken out of my check every week for benefits anyway, would it not make sense to have just included the cost of the deductible in there?
That's not how insurance works. They don't take money from you for your deductible. Let's say you go to a doctor, the visit is $100. You have a $200 deductible. Pay for the doctor visit and submit a claim for the visit. Repeat this until you have paid Out Of Pocket, a total of $200. Now you have met your deductible. Any visit from now on to the doctor you will just pay your copay percentage. This is basically how most insurance works. Insurance doesn't get your deductible money, a deductible is the portion you have to pay to a doctor, hospital, etc. BEFORE your insurance starts paying.
